The girls ' team remained undefeated in regular season play, winning eight matches. Members were Seniors Christy Colmer, Kelly Shackleford and Melanie Crelia, Juniors Holly Hight, Ann Merkel, Liz Barkley and Sherry Currin, Sophomores Janet Kruer, Renee Jones and Beth Harper and Freshman Lisa Herubin. Christy Colmer, who filled the number one singles position for the girls, was ranked sixth in the state by the United States Tennis Association. Kelly Shackelford, Sherry Currin and Holly Hight are also in the U.S.T.A. rankings. In their division, the girls finished second out of ten teams to Westminster in region. Number one singles Christy Colmer and number one doubles team Sherry Currin and Holly Hight both lost in the semifinals. Kelly Shackleford and Melanie Crelia finished second in singles, while the number two doubles team of Liz Barkley and Janet Kruer also finished second. Tennis Teams Display The boys ' tennis team had a less successful season, than the girls ' team winning only two matches. The team is made up of Seniors Greg Alby, Chris Berthelson, Carl Peavy and Tom Margeson, Sophomore Keith Gmiter and Freshman Pat Curry, Chris Markham and Bill Skillas. Tom Margeson went on to win the boys ' region 4-AAA tennis title by defeating Craig Pendreys of Marist 7- 6, 3-6 and 6-3. Tom, who was ranked second in state by the United States Tennis Association, went on to state, where he was defeated in the semi-finals with a score of 6-3, 7-5. At top right are (back) Hutch Moore, Pat Curry, Carl Peavy and Tom Margeson; front are Bill Skillas and Keither Gmiter.
