' Hampered by lack of a home field for practice and games and lack of student support, the 1979 Varsity Baseball team managed to improve its record to 5-13-1, but failed to live up to its potential. The team ' s first game was a 4-2 win over North Fulton. Pitcher Tracy Dempsey and outfielders Keith Maloof and Brian Connors led the defensive effort. Henry Vasquez and Jason Fragapayne led the offense with one homerun each. The second game of the year was an 8-0 loss to Redan. It was marred by mistakes and lack of pitching and hitting. These two games exemplified the inconsistent season which followed. The highlight of the season was the 8-0 victory over Pace Academy. Despite this year ' s probelms, Coach Willie Smith and a returning nucleus are optimistic and looking forward to a more fulfilling season next year.
