Wrestlers Hit the Mats St. Pius acquired its first competitive wrestling team this year under the leadership of Coach Willie Smith and Coach Ron Mangrum. The wrestlers competed against several though teams including Marist, Pace and Milton and compiled a 3-8 win-loss record. The three Lion victories were over Henry County, Darlington and Ridgeview. The captains of the team were David Sullivan and Tim Dunn. Senior members of the team were Mike Bergman, David Flowers, Chris Hillsman, Billy Burdette and Greg Olivares. the Hills... to Victory In its second year, th e Girls ' Cross Country team finished second in Region 4-AAA and second in State AAA competitions. All seven girls running in the state meet finished in the top 25. Lorena Camp holds the school record for the two-mile course at the waterworks with a time of 12:51. Spikers Gain Skill Varsity Volleyball team members are (back) Coach Mary Ann Zins, Angela Strougal, Marianne Maher, Sherry Currin, Juliet Jones, Leslie Stuart, Karen Ciprari, Hillary Reeves and Chris Turner; (front) Kimberly Kortan, Josette Perconti, Kris Klinczak, Carrie Bogg s, Donna Lampkin and Pat Turner. In an effort to overcome obstacles of youth and inexperience, the Girls ' Varsity Volleyball team concentrated on developing basic skills. Despite a losing record of 2-8, the girls gained valuable experience through the coaching of Mrs. Mary Ann Zins. Their two wins were against Marist in games of 15-3 and 15-4.
