Cross Country Goes Over Boys ' Cross Country team are (back) P. Gerdes, M. Homrich, M. Goode, P. McGonegal, D. McGraw, M. Stephens (front) Coach Gene Brisbane, B. Bergmann, R. Buechner, C. Bear, B. Ollinger and F. Gerdes. Under the guidance of Coach Gene Brisbane, the Boys ' Cross Country team was off and running again this year. Over all, the team finished third in region behind two tough teams, Marist and Ridgeview. Individually, Senior Mike Goode finished first in region with a time of 16:40, and Felix Gerdes finished fifth with a time of 16:50. By placing among the top five finalists in the region meet, Mike and Felix went on to compete on a state-wide level. At the state cross country championships, Mike placed fifth in a three-mile course with a time of 16:40, while Felix finished sixteenth with a time of 16:50. At right is Mark Homrich, pouring on the speed toward the finish. 72

Baby Lions Gain Experience The Junior Varsity Football team ended its season with a 0-5-1 record, but gained valuable experince for the upcoming year. Under the direction of Coach George Sattele, John Warren and Cory Stephens led the team offensively, and Steve Newbern provided exceptional defensive play. The Freshman team compiled a 3-2 record and averaged 22 points per game to complete a successful season. Coached by Mr. Wright Vermillya, the team had an excellent offensive running game and defensively, had two shutouts. Halfback Frank Maloof led the offense with over 100 yards per game. Linebacker Adam Teague was also an outstanding offensive player. On facing page, corner Dwight Stout watches the offensive unit do its thing. On this page (bottom) Freshman quarterback Chris Markham barks out the signals while Joe Orr and Matt Marsden anticipate the upcoming play. At top, the Freshman offensive unit prepared its next series of plays. 71

the Hills... to Victory In its second year, th e Girls ' Cross Country team finished second in Region 4-AAA and second in State AAA competitions. All seven girls running in the state meet finished in the top 25. Lorena Camp holds the school record for the two-mile course at the waterworks with a time of 12:51.
