Lion Spirit Although this year ' s Varsity Football team came up on the short end of the win- loss column, its spirit and heart were unmatched. The season began with a 25- 6 thrashing of the Henry County War Hawks. Toby Hughes scored twice on runs of 10 and 15 yards. Mike Hunsucker scored on a 40-yard run and threw a 21- yard pass to Ron Logan who was injured later in the game and was out for half the season. The Lions then traveled home to face the Woodward Academy War Eagles. Mistakes plagued St. Pius as Woodward came out on top, 20-6. Jim Warren scored the Lions ' only touchdown on a 15-yard run. During the game, another serious injury hit the team as Tom Love was lost for the entire season due to a knee injury. The Lovett Lions proved to be too much to handle, as the injury-riddled Golden Lions lost the next game 30-0. Against the highly regarded and state- ranked North Springs Spartans, the Lions played a tough game, but costly mistakes gave the Spartans a 20-7 victory. The annual Fish Bowl took place the very next week as St. Pius hosted arch- rival Marist. It was a bitterly contested game, with the larger Marist team Continued on page 70.
