Ort Hoxie and Stan Fleece on fouls, St. Philip's was beaten in the last minutes by St. 'Mary's. ellld jan. 25-Lansing, St. Mary 38g St. Philip 33 After trailing 25-14 at the half, St. Philip fought a great uphill battle in the last half before finally going down to defeat. St. Mary was sparked by her two stellar guards, Doll and Heddon, who counted 27 of their team's 38 points. The game was largely an offensive and defensive duel between these two and Capt. 'Hoxie and Holloway, who scored eleven and ten points, respectively. jan. 29-Lansing, Resurrection 29g St. Philip 27 St. Philip really lost a heart breaker when Resurrection scored a field goal in the final seconds of the game. After trailing 22-17 as the last period got under way the Tigers rallied to tie the score at 27 all before the game-winning basket. The loss of big Stan Fleece the week before because of a mouth injury somewhat weakened the Tigers. Stan Keagle led the scoring with nine points while Tom Conroy had seven. Feb. 1-jackson, St. Mary 355 St. Philip 45 St. Philip scored one of the season's biggest upsets when they handed the previously undefeated St. Mary squad their first defeat of the year. Ort Hoxie led the scoring by counting 17 points but he was closely followed by Guard Rex Holloway who made 14. Feb. 5-Kalamazoo, St. Augustine 44g St. Philip 26 St. Augustine handed the Tigers their worst defeat of the year when they literally swarmed all over the Tigers, who seemed to be able to do nothing right. Feb. 8-Lakeview 24g St. Philip 22 After trailing most of the way Lakeview came from behind to defeat the Tigers in the last minutes of the game. Ort Hoxie led the Tigers with 12 points. Feb. 15-Ann Arbor, St. Thomas 433 St. Philip 45 Trailing by nine points St. Philip's, going into the fourth quarter, rallied to tie the game 43-43 when the final whistle blew.
