ST. PHILIP 7 O 7 O 14 IOl7IOl.l... LANSING - ST. MARY If ever there was an exciting game of football, this was it. Although outweighed, the Tigers showed -that they were not to be outplayed, when they forged ahead in the first quarter on Hoxie's touchdown. Fleece plunged across for the extra poin-t. However, St. Mary's likewise scored in the second quarter to make the halftime score 7-7. In the third quarter, St. Philip again forged ahead on Fleece's touchdown. Tom Conroy caught a pass for what proved to be the winning point. Tiger fans were somewhat dismayed when the Big Reds scored midway in the last period, but spirits again rose when their extra point attempt was no good. Fleece and Hoxie bore the brunt of the attack while Center jim Weide- man, Tackle Powell, and Guard Burgie were outstanding on B. UDWA defense. St. Philip's Tigers proved that they were really champions when they beat St. Augustine in the title deciding game, thirteen to two. In the second period Ort Hoxie broke away for what appeared to be a forty-yard touchdown run. The officials, however, ruled that he had stepped out of bounds at the fifteen yard line. This, however, did not stop the Tigers, as Hoxie scored from the seven yard line two plays later. Midway in the third period, Hoxie again scored. This time Fleece added the extra point on a plunge. St. Augustine scored their only two points late in the game on a blocked punt. The oEensive stars of the game were Ort Hoxie and Stan Fleece. The major factor in St. Philip's victory was its line, sparked by Center Weideman, Guard Burgie, and Tackle Powell. ST. PHILIP O O O 2 2 'O'6l7'O'13 f T. CCNROY KALAMAZOO - ST. AUGUSTINE 47

ST. PHILIP O O O O O lOlOVl0I 7 ANN ARBOR - ST. THOMAS Still smarting from their defeat by jackson St. John's the week before, the Tigers bounced back to wreak vengeance on St. Thomas, 7-0. The game was scoreless the first half, but in the second half St. Philip needed only six plays to score, with Fleece's 40-yard run the deciding factor. Although playing with a badly infected arm, Stan Fleece was the big thorn in the side of the Irish, He scored all of St. Philip's points, six on a plunge into the line and then adding the extra point on a perfect placement.
