'lihen they performed at all home football games. elimaxed by their appearanee yyith the massed band that played at the tfatholie- llublie tihampionship football galne. Next tame initiation day bringing yyith it the annual bfuuluet and distribution ol sueaters. they also played at all home basketball games. Mareh brought the solo eontest. t yyhere eyery member played a solo. The yyinners then competed yyith others at the All-Catholie City solo eontest. ,Xpril Iltvth yyas their annual eoneert at Urehestral Halt. The bandis year closed n hen they played in the .Xll-t'atholie tfity band eontest. yyhen the seniors played for their last time. THE FRESHMAN BAND 'lihe public' has lay ishetl its praise for many years upon the high standard of Ft. Philip's bands. The high esteem of our sehool is. in no small yyay. responsible for this reputation. Hut long before the boys assume the role of polished musieians. they spend tedious hours of praetising fundamentals in the Freshman hand . . . Their public aetiyities are limited. appearing only before the l7ather's Club and the lVlother's Club and again during the intermission ol the yarsity eoneeit. 'l'heir splendid rendition that night augurs yyell for the future . . . Brother Hayes. moderator of this band. main- tains that there is among them a yyide yariety of talent only too anxious to display their it ares. Their stellar performances certainly hate eonyineed us that there yxill be no trouble in Filling the plaees yaeated by the varsity seniors. 'Q vb V -t 56 SCHOLA CANTORUNI Father Gregory tfllrien brought the Gregorian Chant to St. Philip High Sehool for the first time in 19411. The Sehola Cantorum is an organization dedieated to singing Gregorian music. lt is the only' one of its kind in Catholie acad- emies and universities throughout the entire Middle West. Along with the seminarians from Hillsides Mater llolorosa Seminary' this group sang the entire Mass on Palm Sunday from Our Lady of Sorroyys Chureh oy er ltadio Station WGES. At the Wednesday morning Mass the St-hola sang yarious Latin yerses during the eourse of the year. PT' . Father Uillrien expects great things from this fine group el' mnsieians in future years.
