The stenography section of the commercial department, like all the depart- ments. is primarily concerned with the major ideals and objectives of Catholic Education. The actual principles of Shorthand and Typing are developed so as to prepare those students who do not plan to enter college to lit themselves for office positions. The mental and manual training inculcated in these two subjects are extremely valuable. The bookkeeping department is divided into four sections: section one, a course in general business, is studied by the freshmen, and teaches the fun- damentals of business. Salesinanship is the mainstay of the Sophomores who are taking a Com- mercial course. Combining the knowledge of General Business, the Sophomore student is able to receive the full face value of salesmansliip. The primary points of Commercial Law are taught so that those students who seem interested might some day become successful lawyers in the business world. Bookkeeping is the main item in the field of business. Under careful guidance it is one subject that keeps the Commercial students thinking and following out their thoughts with the knowledge imparted to them. 16
