The Year in Retrospect After exams were over the students became occupied for a few days with the long February weekend. Following the weekend, activity in the Glee Club and the Bishop's Men increased, as both groups prepared for the coming concert season. On March 2, the basketball season ended with the final tally at 4 and 10. Although not as successful as last year's team, this year's quintet lost many of its games in overtime. Mr. Schlett attributed the record to the teams inability to pull through in a tight squeeze. On March 3, The Dramatics Club entertained with two plays, excerpts from Pagnol's comedy Topaze, and a melodrama Curse You, Jack Dalton. On the weekend of March 17, the Seniors took their linal College Boards and then Glee Club left for a highly successful four day tour in New jersey and the smrounding area. Finally the Spring term commenced with the return of the students on April 4. The baseball team started in immediately, and the Hrst game was played on April 10. The Glee Club reached the high point of its season at the Roosevelt Hotel Concert and Dance held on May 4. This annual affair seems to get better with-each passing ear and this year was no exception. The Glee Club was rewarded for its efflorts by a sumptuous banquet a few weeks later. May 10, Ascension Day, saw the installation of the new Praefects, and the Seniors finally began to realize the nearness of Graduation Day. The annual Parent's Da Smorgasborg was held the following Saturday, May 12, and the many attended acclaimed the affair a success. May 19 saw the culmination of the social season with the Senior Prom. 25 couples were invited as guests of the school and the Class of '56 for a highly successful and enjoyable weekend. 'I'he next weekend saw the Baccalaureate Service. This was a sure sign that the goal of the 19 Seniors was at hand. Beyond the normal course of cram- ming for the final exams came the final air of excitement that surrounds the last few days. The Seniors were treated to Dinners and parties while the Class of '57 took over the administration. With the coming of Iune 1 came the end of the academic year and the next day brought the culmination of four year's hard work for 19 young men. As each one went up to receive his diploma he looked back on the past year, and althouggi it had its disappointing moments, it will be a standard for future classes to aim or. THE MITRE 41
