The Year: in Retrospect On Sunday, September 15, 1955, the eighteenth school year began with a retreat for the faculty conducted by Father Leeming. The Class of '56 returned the following Tuesday to complete the preparations for the opening of school, and to be on hand to greet the new boys who entered the next day. Thursday saw the completion of the student body with the return of the old boysj As is always the case many improvements were noted by returning students. In ad- dition to the many building improvements, six new masters were welcomed to the faculty: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hughes, Mr. William Hinckley, '51, Mr. Philip Jacobson, Mr. Thomas Barnett, '53, and Mr. Robert Schlett, 53. Mr. William Ryan returned to resume his position as Language Master after having taught and studied in France on a leave of absence. Football practice started almost immediately, and the season was officially opened on October 8, with a 19-0 rout of Oakwood. The game was the climax of a highly successful Auction Day for the benefit of the Scholarship Fund. On October 31, the Senior Class gave the annual Halloween party. The highlight of the evening was a humorous slcit depicting life at school put on by the Seniors. On the next Saturday night, November 5, the Saint Peter's social season was started with a highly successful dance sponsored by the Class of '57. November 5 also saw the Saint Peter's eleven take its second victory from Storm King. The season ended the following Saturday when the team was defeated in the last seconds by the team from Saint Luke's. The final record stood at 2 and 3 and did not show the potential of the team. Even though the team was badly beaten in one game, its spirit was one to be copied b future elevens. The Thanksgiving recess began on November 23, and the studlent body tumed home- ward for the first vacation of the year. p After the vacation, the Glee Club and Bishop's Men began to finish up their Christmas repertoire. The first concert engagement of the ear was at the Elks Club on December 12. Both groups helped to wind up the Michaelmas term by supplying the music for the Annual Boar's Head Festival and Yule Loi Cere- mony. After the Mummer's Play at the end of the evening the students eaded home for the much anticipated Christmas holidays. The student body, with the exception of the boys on the Honor Roll, re- turned to school on Thursday, January 5. Everyone immediately began to pre- pare for the impending College Boards and the mid-years. When we returned from the Christmas holidays the exciting news of the new property addition was announced to us. The adjoining McFadden Estate, of 38 acres and several new buildings, was added to the school. In addition Manning, Keble, Seabury, and Pusey House will be moved across the road thus incorporating the entire school on the north side of Main Street. It is hoped that the proposed infirmary and new athletic facilities will be ready by Septem- ber. With this great advancement the school has unlimited opportunities for development in the future.
