any outside competition, more especially so since none of the members had shot in competition before. Soon, however, it was seen that some of the boys were capable of tuming in some fine targets. The members of the Club held a meet- ing at which the decided to enter a rifle meet. Early in February elimination rounds were held, in order to determine which bo s were eligible to compete in the meet. After two aftemoons of firing it was dlecided that, in view of their continually high scores, David Casscells, Skip Howe, john Lamble, Michael Pelyo, Martin Raizer, jim Stroud, and George Varian would represent the School in the rifle meet held at New York Military Academy on February 25 in con- junction with several other schools in Westchester County. Although the Rifle Club did not come in first according to the score, the boys turned in an excellent showing, doing much better than even they themselves had expected. As yet, riflery is only a club sport at Saint Peter's. There are not the proper facilities to engage other teams in competition on home territory nor are there a sufficient number of consistently high scorers on the team. However, a start has been made, and it is hoped that the Rifle Club will succeed in establishing itself more positively during the coming year. An encouraging note is the fact that the team is largely made up of sophomores and juniors who can form an experienced nucleus for next year's team. It is hoped that by next year the Rifle Club will increase in number, and attain more complete practice facilities and a team status for riflery. With the acquisition of the McFadden property in the course of the year came the hope that some of the fields might be use as tennis courts. Although it has been impossible for that hope to be realized as yet this year, there has been much strong encouragement for their construction during the summer so that they might be ready next September.
