OLD COMMERCIAL Coomeration with civic cnteririses has always been included in the n 1 I . 1 Q u I n u n 1 wo training given at St. Peter s. ln 1931 during the prlncipalship of Sister lgnatia Browne, the State Central Sayings Bank sponsored and established a school banking system. Since that year St. Peter lligh and St. Vincent Cirade Schools, alone. have maintained a weekly osition of one hundred a n 1 I P ' per cent. Again. in 1932, St. Peter's was awarded a trophy for its splendid co-operation in lire prevention work. Sister Mary, who became principal at St. l'eter's in l933. initiated the post-graduate course lor those desiring to perlect themselves in secretarial work. Many'improvements were made throughout the general plan of the building. In 1934 the commercial department was enlarged and beautilied and a new supply of equipment purchased. The science laboratory was much enhanced by being moved to its present location which is, in itself. ideal. The Science Club at St. l'eter's was established in 1935 and became atliliated with the National Science Club of .-Xmerica-the large member- ship of the local club convincingly attests to the popularity' of the organ- ization with the students. ww. 4, OLIJ AUIDITORIUM Since then. graduates ol' St. l'eter's have been admitted to State l'ni- yersities without examination. 'lihe educational etlorts and progress of the school made rapid strides under the leadership of Sister l-oretta Tobin. who held the position of principal from 191-l to 1920. Because of the loyal and substantial help of Monsignor Ciillespie and because ol' constantly rising standards ol' education many iniproyenients were made in the school during the years 1920-1927 when Sister Madeleine hlorris was the acting principal. The old study hall was converted into an attractive auditorium by the installation of four hundred theatre seats -lockers were also built for the convenience ol- the students. The period also dates the origin ol' the lfeton lfducational League to bring about the co-operation of the parents and patrons of our Catholic Schools with the teachers. The first publication of the school annual, The Gatekeeper and the origin of the Krista League maybe classed during the period to show the progressiyeness of the faculty. OLIJ SCIENCE LABORATORY Another very important improveinent introduced, was the establishing ol' a lihrary proper. Lip until this time the library cases were placed here and there throughout the auditorium, hut in 193-l the library was installed in its present location and is a much frequented place. Today St. Peter's lihrary can boast of 4800 volumes, both reference and fictional works included. ln l937,the W'riters'or .Iournalisni Club was organized for the purpose ol' training the students in newspaper writing. 'lihe membership of the club, is limited to seniors and juniors. and the activities include the publishing of the school newspaper and in sending to thc diocesan paper weekly reports ol' the various activities of the several parishes and schools in the city.
