Those Were The Days . . . 1964 and you see a million new faces as you enter a world of crayons and sand- boxes. You would never have made it through that first day if it wasn't for that comer of your blanket that you cut off to bring to school with you. (Thank goodness Mom didn't find out.) It was hard to tell who cried the most that day-you or your mom. . . • Having handled the first day jitters extremely well last year, you decide to be the hot snot on the 2nd grade campus. Here's your chance-you see a girl with long hair in front of you, so you bravely yank her hair. Much to your dismay, you find out it was the teacher who was sitting on the floor, and you, the hot-shot , re- main in class while everyone else is at the playground. . . . The agony of getting a vaccination shot is upon you. You try to convince the nurse that you are the healthiest kid around and that you will never get any disease and all she says is to get back in line. For the first time you experience what is known as a cold sweat. . . . The days of girls chasing and boys running are upon you. Seventh grade also brings the terrible thought of phy. ed. (with showers). By a sheer miracle you make it through the school to find your first room. Only, 5 minutes between classes is so short! . . . By ninth grade the boys have finally stopped running and have slowed down to a walk, but now the girls are a little more picky. . . . Thirteen years have passed and 1977 is now upon us. This is the story of 1977— a story and year that can never be again... 3
