Reflect, Relive and Remember A multitude of memories, from current fashions to teachers long gone, emerge at home- coming time. In 1977 fashions were, of course, different from any other year. Who can forget painter's pants, boots-n-gauchos, cowl necks, cords, -ugby shirts, and bib over- alls? Historical! highlights from the class of 1977'siIlustrious past include rebuilding our rained out tenth grade float and the sigh of relief we all gave when we just missed co-ed gym classes. Of course we can't forget the ninth grade paper drive in which we won the Most Hard-Working award. And what about watching Miss Shellabarger (as she was called then) when the intercom fell on her? In seventh grade remember all the Junior Scholastics we got every week, and kept on getting in eighth grade, too? We must not forget the teachers who have now left us: Mr. Bieraugel, Mr. Theuer, Mr. Peterson, Mr. Osterkamp, and Mr. Caldwell, to name a few. And don't forget the many substitutes we got rid of in tenth grade English before Mrs. Turrittin came. This is what homecoming is all about; a chance to recreate the times spent in and around school. As we return to SPHS during the homecomings of future years, these mem- ories of 1976-1977 will let us reflect, relive, and remember a year that has been one of a kind. A year that can not and will not be again.

'uk Homecoming Is A Time To homecoming- (honVkun ing) n, I. a coming or returning to one's home. 2. in many schools, an annual celebration attended by alumni. As classes from past years return to SPHS for homecoming, vivid memories return about their bonfires, the snake dances that wiggled their way down main street, and the all important football games. Memories also include bobby socks, long pleated skirts, and the many crew cuts which used to plague the school. -» ' Homecoming 1976 was definitely unique—not because of the activities alone, but because of the students. Thinking of the 1976-1977 school year one may recall famous sayins such as seriously now , stick it in your ear , you whooper , you queer , I'm having tumors , spastic , shut your beak , sit on it , you nerd , you fruit , How bad! , you turkey , Oh birds , and no thank you please . Even though these will never make it into Bartlett's book of FAMILAR QUOTATIONS, they serve as a reminder of our unforgettable year. We must not forget the happenings, fads, pranks, and other what-nots which also helped make 1977 great. How many other classes can brag about having a sign-up contest to be Kevin Sorensen's prom date? Not many people can say they have completely shaved their heads—Matt Rheaume can. Then along came Renegade's Defeat, Derner's attempt at a homecoming party, f an arr'val °f swine flue shots! More special features of 1977 % include having two Mrs. Turrittins, the changing of the school paper's name from Peter Patter to The Communicator , and H1 the yearbook's adoption of it's first mascot, Spike.
