Hey, Bern, will you type this up for me? — Mrs. Thompson keeps the office working smoothly and thus keeps the school working smoothly. The Peterian staff of 1969 would like to dedicate this annual to Mrs. Thomp- son because she has dedicated her work to the betterment of our school. Convention fever hits SPHS R. Wettergren acts as secretary for the Republican convention. This fall, the students and teachers of SPHS were given an opportunity to participate in a mock presi- dential election. It started out with delegate conven- tions complete with speeches, walk-outs, and party bands and ended with the actual balloting. Through this experience, we as students learned a little more about the democratic process while enjoying our- selves . S. Leasure and J. Meyer begin coronation activities. L. Regenscheid and D. Pettis make way for the royal court. Queen Yvonne welcomes alumni Yvonne Carter reigned as a radiant queen for Homecoming 1968. The game was a smashing vic- tory with the score 57-28. AFS Student, Pierre Van Ger- dinge receives his diploma. The future is still in our power . . . and I want you all to read this book, MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING. The Class of '69. On Graduation night you start to remember what it was first like when you entered SPHS. Only five minutes between classes! Oh, you'll never make it on time. You had now entered the life of junior high student. You could look forward to Mr. Harvey's poets' comer and Mrs. Swenson's slides. Then you became a sophomore. You had Mr. Nesvig's class-so you had to get to work.— Hey, you were in high school! Funny, you didn't feel any different! Now you were a junior--but it could not be that you only had one year left. You got your ring. You were really going to be a sen- ior! And then it was here--your senior year. You remember football, ANTIGONE, District Basket- ball Champs, and the senior Prom. Now you were walking down the hall for the last time. After to- night you would no longer be a part of this school. But you don't only think about the past. You think about the future. Work, college, getting married, and having a family. These will all be part of your life and you wonder--Am I ready to meet these challenges? You are done with high school, but there'll always be a little box in your memory in which are treasured the best moments of your life at St. Peter High School. CLASS ADVISORS: Mr. Person, Mr. Waltman. The Recessional. Seniors hear Dr. Geier. SALUTATORIAN: Richard Gustafson. VALEDICTORIAN: Yvonne Carter. 18 The Arts A harmonious chord, an intriguing sculpture, and a frolicking comedy-- each have given someone a smile, a bit of sunshine to help him through a rainy day. The Arts add to edu- cation, as well, creating a more intelligent, aware person. What we have gained in math and science and history makes us only halves. Through these pressures and pleasures, we become the total man, ready for the world. 20 21 Sciences Amidst flying electrons, tan- gents, magnetism, and proba- bility students have become more aware of the ever-expanding knowledge around them in the space age. The Sciences urge us to solve our problems rationally. With a better understanding in these fields, we will be more qualified to build a better tomor- row. 23 Vocational The vocational depart- ments in our school have been constantly expanding to prepare students for their role in our world which we will soon be ex- pected to face. Whether it be with a typewriter, a metal lathe, or a sewing machine, students in the various vocational classes have learned to handle these tools effectively to provide useful daily ser- vices . Humanities The Humanities help us to know the human being, its wants and its needs. Through these studies into the minds of men we can better under- stand our fellow students, and help them to understand us as we learn to express our- selves in a free manner and accept the expression of others. The communication gap is drawing ever smaller through the study of the Hu- manities, thus closing many of the gaps in our gaping world of today. 26 cirri'— COUNCIL MEMBERS, SEATED: R. Gustafson, S. Three players, Mike Mayo, Tom Witty, and Steve Neils were named to the All-Conference Team. The boys placed second in the toughest South Central Conference in many years, and triumph- antly presented the school with the District 13 first place trophy. It took a lot of hard work to build a team that did as well as the Saints this year. We out-wrestled six schools, tied one, and were beaten by only one. 63 TRACK TEAM, SEATED: J. Theurer, P. Menk, K. Roger Brenke broke his own record in the 2 mile run with a 10 min. 19.9 sec. over 10 min. 42 sec. of last year. In the 440 relay, T. Witty, J. Kruger, S. Scholl, and D. Johnson broke the school record with a 46. 7. More school records were broken in the 1 and 2 mile relays. T. Witty, Thor Langsjoen, and R. Brenke ran the mile in 3 min. 34.5 sec. The 2 mile relay was run by C. Custer, G. Kreykes, B. Scholl, and Thor Langsjoen in 9 min. 1.5 sec. Although this year's team was pretty fair, Mr. Braunger says it did lack depth. With 4 seniors returning next year, the coaches look for- ward to a younger team and lots of practice. SPHS diamond sees action The 1969 baseball team of St. Peter High School, under the direc- tion of head coach Don Nesheim and assistants Denny Booren and Marlin Rudebush, had six returning letter- men. The Saints got off to a strong start this season by winning two out of their first three games, but ended up with five wins to six losses for an average season. St. Peter High School had an unusual team this year, with ten seniors and only one junior. It will be interesting to see the outcome of next year's team. KNEELING: W. BrekJke, M. Myhra, J. The spring floods this year greatly hindered practice sessions for golf, resulting in a late start. However, after losing their first two matches, the team came into mid-season form with victories over Lakeville, St. James, and Hutchinson, through diligent work and practice. The team finished 7th in the Conference and ended up with 3rd place in the District. Golf Tennis Tennis coach, Mr. Sipes was up against some tough odds this season with four new members to the team. The team suffered 7 losses and saw one defeat over St. James. The prospects for 1970 should be good with LaMar Hay, Steve Johnson, Dave McPherson, and Dan Esbjom- son returning. KNEELING: D.
