Soccer ITH the large number of boys out and the add1t1on of two masters Mr Slesmck and Mr Hall to the coachrng staff soccer agaln reached a new h1gh 1n lnterest and part1c1pat1on Competrtlon was keen for the new cup glven by D1ck George last years capta1n for the club SCIICS champ1onsh1p wh1ch was won by the lsthmlans In the Hrst game of the season the Isthmlans playlng offensrvely most of the t1me defeated the Old Hundreds 1 o on Gleske s goal rn a very close game The Delph1ans then took the Old Hundreds 3 2 on goals by Darby the capta1n Barclay and Rawson wh1le Gordon and Blue capta1n Colgate scored for the opponents The game went 1nto two overt1me perlods Soon after the Blue beat the Isthmrans 32 Boulton scor1ng the goal that cl1nched the upset the only - 77 game lost by the Red who were then ahead 1n the ser1es The Delphs lost two 1n a row to the Old Hundreds 2 1 wh1ch put the wmners rn a t1e Wlth the leaders and then to the Isthm1ans 3 1 The Red then cl1nched the champronshlp by taklng the Old Hundreds 3 1 w1th Marshall Stebblns and Cochran capta1n of the team stand1ng out for the wxnners Wlth Howard Boulton scor1ng three goals the Old Hundreds beat the Delphs 5 I and two days later the Isthmlans closed the season by defeatrng the Delphs 2 I Cochran scorxng the w1nn1ng goal The SP S season began w1th a loss to Brooks 3 2 on the wlnners Held Captam Darby and Gordon scored for St Paul s but two goals rn the fourth perrod won for Brooks Governor Dummer also was v1c tor1ous by two goals the score be1ng 42 One Governor Dummer forward outscored the St Pauls team rn a game wh1ch saw goals by Darby Boulton and Pool The one v1ctory of the season was 1n the New Hampton game wh1ch S P S won 2 o domxnatlng the play throughout Marshall and Boulton scored and Hackett played well on defense Stebbms shut out the opposltron w1th his excellent defense of the goal The season closed with a loss to Dubhn 3 1 Playlng on a snowy muddy field nexther team was able to use 1tS offense well and S P S had trouble 1n coordrnatlng backs Wlth the lme Thrs was often the case durlng the season there were many strong players 1nd1v1dually but the team was not so good as a whole , . - 9 X 5 . , . . . . .
