The Annual Staff has worked very hard in its efforts to bring to the students of Saint Pauls High one of the best annuals they have ever had. For the first time, juniors have been on the staff, so they might gain experience in working with an annual. This year, Mrs. Dun- can Malloy has guided the staff of 14 members. We have pictured for you a typical day in our school. It is a record of activities, personali- ties, and features for your future reference. ,.............---Wfefl----H M '-'cttw' We thank our generous sponsors for mal-ring this possible. Pug Hall, Editor-in-chief, Sue Sparkman, Associate Editor. Page Forty .Newspaper Staff The very first BULLDOGS' BARK was published in 1951 and since then, it has continued to grow and improve a little more each year. For six years, it was considered a unit of the stu- dent council, but in 1956, the BULLDOGS' BARK was made an independent organization. Now the editors are selected by the sponsor and past editor. Each year, nine issues of the BULLDOGS' BARK are published. The students on the newspaper staff compile these issues, which include wri- ting, editing, typing, and producing the paper. Now, there are twenty people on the staff which includes 10 editors. Mrs. Carolyn Stephens has been sponsor for 3 years. The BULLDOGS' BARK gives much valuable ex- perience to future journalists, and it is the S.P.H.S. students' way of practicing freedom of speech. Coach Walter Ragan put to- gether a jaugernaut that wasunstoppable at their best. Had it not been for a couple of bad breaks going against them, they would have compiled a perfect record. They averaged over 300 yards per game rushing. One of the high points of the season came when they played the strong Massey Hill Pirates to a 21 - 21 tie. The Bulldogs were led by all-confer- ence Breck Regan, who played in the Shrine Bowl and was selected to play for the East in the East- West game, along with Breck in the backfield was big Pug Hall, the bonecrushing fullback and a terror on defense, also little johnny Walker, who can run the hundred in less than eleven seconds. The char- ges up front were led by forty-eight minute Hot Rod Deaton, Max Lowery, and Old Reliable Bill Doc Dowd. Luckey Welsh did a great job of run- ning the ball club. All in all it can be said that for the first time the Bulldogs never gave up, even with their backs to the wall, they always came storming back. Girls' Basketball RESUME OF THE SEASON Batting third place in the conference at the end of the season, the Lady Bulldogs went into the tourna- ment seeded third, caused two upsets, and came out with the title of Champions! We feel that the team had the best year in basket- ball that St. Pauls has witnessed in quite a while. All twelve girls were levelheaded and calm, even when the scores were close. Under the inspiration of our fine coach, the entire squad played as one unit and our championship is certainly a team vic- tory. Individual honors went to Mary Catherine Berdeau, who won the tournament's most valuable player award, and Mary Brewer Regan and co-captain Janice White, who were chosen for the all-county team. All members of the team showed that they were Uue champions by their fine examples of team spirit and good sportsmanship. Their over-all record was 23 - O, losing in the distric playoffs to the strong Elise team in an overtime. The Saints made a terrific showing before bowing out. They were led by all- conference Gene jackson, who had a 20 plus record I for the season, and by James! Haggins and Benny Pearce, who were outstanding all season. The Bull- dogs have won 64 games while losing 3 in the past three years. Prospects for the next season look even better, and we have our sights set on the state cham- pionship.
