BLUE EAGLE SQUAD ON THE DIAMOND AND CINDER PATH By DON SMITH '51 BASEBALL Baseball players wasted no time getting up a schedule of games. Despite a short playing season, cost of equipment, new uniforms, and other obstacles, the Blue Eagles have a good record of box scores on their fast filling up slate. Stout hearted players leave the dugout to endear themselves to us with their courage and their playing, hitting, and their snappy fielding. Right now spirit is high and ball playing is on the up stroke. Both of these are extra special. They can lead to such things as Tampa Bay Conference . . . T.B.C. and District Tourna- ments. Why not? TRACK Running like mad with high stepping stride and flying heels St. Paul's thin clads have tried to recapture the old never die spirit of days that used to be when we had our excellent cinder track and excellent combinations. This year, however, we took time off from baseball to send a slender representation to the Tampa Bay Conference Meet. The Eagles had very little time for practice sprinting, but kept coming on and finish- ed a surprising third when we were clocked in. Point getters for the Eagles were, Robert Elliott, John Pistone, Charles Blowers, William Howard Taft, and Barry Kavanaugh. An- chored with such men as these, we can go on with others to winged victory. Front row, left to right: James Maher, Melvin Brennan, Charlie Blowers. Second row: Robert Elliott, John Pistone, John O'Brien. John Hughes, Barry Kavanaugh. Harry Theil, Leo Kerwin. Third row: Dick Corriveau, Billy Huffman. Mike Bartecki, Butch Ninis, Bill Taft. John Starost, Thomas Allen. James Swiderski. Baseball and Track John Pistone finishes n strong second in the T. B.C. Mile at the annual track meet held this year at Plant Field in Tampa St. Paul's finished third in the meet.
