Class leaders were Mike Gfell, Presi- dentg John Weisenberger, Vice-Presidentg Cheryl Col- lier, Secretary and Steve Kayatin, Treasurer. The class had accumulated a sizable treasury over the last four years due to the well organized money making projects that the class had conducted. This money was earned through such projectsas bake sales, pizza and magazine drives, various raffles and the Christmas Dance they sponsored in their junior year. Academically, this class took advantage of the new courses at St. Paul, with 213 of the class enrolled in the challenging advanced English course. Athletically, there were many outstanding senior players on our sports teams, which added to the over- all success of the sports program. Senior girls provided the leadership for the foundation of a strong girls sports program. Spiritually, the class had one of the best represen- tations at TEC in years. They were also responsible for reviving the CYO, an important young peoples club A successful prom and after-prom was held Satur- day, May 8 at the Greentree Inn. The music was pro- vided by the Bellvue Stage Band, setting a lively mood for this 76 prom. Xa I Flyers End nother Winning Season 6-3-1 The 1975 Flyer football team led by ten returning lettermen and a fine-qualitied group of seniors finished another traditional winning season with a 6-3-1 record, under second year head coach, Dick Alge, and assist- ants Paul Conry, Mike Wasiniak and John Eschels. Five Flyers engraved their names in the record books. The first record breaker came in the opening game, when junior quarterback, jim Amato, hit sen- ior, Duane Trares, for a 97 yard touchdown pass, breaking the old record of 85 yards. Senior tailback, Chuck Borgeson, broke two records in his three year varsity career, with 35 touchdowns in one career and , next with the all-time St. Paul rushing record of 3523 yards. Two more records were set as senior defensive back, Mike Gfell, tied the school record for the most interceptions in a career, 12, and Mike Fish kicked his name in the records by averaging 35 yards a punt. The Saints' bright spots were beating undefeated, Black River 18-7, winning 60-7 on homecoming night, and also finishing their last game by beating the always tough, Crestline, 27-22. Pride, determination, and teamwork were the big assets for another winning season at Saint Paul High. Iiistfm if C 'lux ,..,,-.4 - FRONT ROW--I. Weisenberger, M. Gfell, D. Trares, A. Hohler, S. Senior guard, Duane Trares, picked up where he left off last year. He went on to take the scoring title in the Fire1and's Conference, averaging over 24 points a game. Duane's strengths were further recognized when he was selected as third team All-Ohio, second team in the Northwest District and named to first team in the Fireland's Conference and District VI. Senior forward, joe Gross, also helped lead the way for the Saints as he was named to second team in the Fireland's Conference and was seventh in the scoring department. Four more seniors proved to be very satisfactory, beginning with center John Hickey, who was named as honorable mention in the Fireland's Conference. Steve Preston who helped with rebounding Qaveraging more than 10 rebounds per gamej. Guard, Jeff Loder- rneier, contributed greatly as he was called on for managing the other playmaker position. Forward, Mike Gfell, added to the Saints performance when some hustle was needed. The Saints' excitement was one that a person will not forget as the Saints lost three of the ive games to archrival, Monroeville, by a total of six points. Los- ing to them in the first meeting 53-49, then a one point difference at the Junior High and then a 60-59 overtime, heartbreaker in the sectional Enals. Four year grappler, John Weisenberger, placed fourth in the Firelands Conference, second in the sec- tionals and he advanced to the district playoffs, ending his season 16-7-1. Another Senior who showed great ability was Steve Kocher finishing second in the Fire1and's Conference and fifth in the sectional playoffs. The Flyer tennis team took it on the chin this year, to say the least, as they lost 7 matches by a score of 3-2 which caused them to have a losing record of 5-9. Team wins came against Clyde 4-1, Perkins 3-2, St. Mary's 5-0, and New London twice by 5-O scores. The only two that were not settled on the very last individual match were against Port Clinton O-5, and Plymouth 2-5. The other losses came against Perkins, Crestline twice, Plymouth, Clyde, and Tiffin Calvert twice all by 3-2 scores. The team was comprised solely of underclassmen which may have caused a few of those defeats since the second man from the 1975 season, senior Al Myers elected to work instead of whacking the ball over the net. But this should make the team strong in next year's campaign. Junior jim Amato played at the number 1 single's position this year for his third year in a row. He had a 14-4 record which included sectional and district play, which led him to win the 11046 Flyer and Most Points trophies at the spring sports picnic. The Most Improved trophy went to second man Eric Theisen, a junior who had only started playing tennis a year before. Sophomore John Paul Kacmarsky, moved up to third man this year after playing fourth the previous year. Theisen and Kacmarsky teamed up in doubles in the sectional and came one match away from advancing to district competition. For the most part of the season, Carrie Amato and jim Creamer, the fourth and fifth players on the team respectively, played as the first doubles team. The last two members of the varsity team were Bill Barron and Jon Cahill who played as the second doubles team.
