However, determination and co- operation took over to make it a very successful year. 'Sports sort of reflectedfthe over-all success of the year which included Fire- lands Conference championships 'in foot- ball, and for the first time ever in Flyer history, in basketball and golf. Athletics proved'to foster the competitive spirit of the school, enabling us to overcome the problems faced throughout the year. This year meant many different things to different people. For the seniors, it was their last year ofhigh school, and they are sure to miss all the goodltimes they've had. The classiof '76 finished their last year as underclassm en and prepare to as- sume the responsibilities of ileading the rest of the student body. The-Isophomores grew in knowledge, the freshmen found out what high school life was all about. Together with a dedicated and friendly faculty, we all had a very good year. . . , Bill Kacmarsky . . . How- ever, seniors worked all day rebuilding 'for the 'o ous affair that ni ht .I V 9 - Following the successful bonfire on Thursday, the student council sponsored a 1950 sock hop in the St. Paul's social hall. All of the student body partici- pated by rocking the night away with the nostalgia beat of Bill Hailey and the Comets. The highlight of the homecoming activities was during the sock hop when some of the varsity football players painted the goalposts at Whitney Field the colors of the school: red, white, and black. This was just part of the high spirits celebrated this week in preparation for the big game with Nlapleton on Saturday night. Starting off Saturday night was a parade through downtown Norwalk to Whitney Field, with the police-escorted Flyer bus following close behind. The night was saddened with the Flyers only loss of the season to much improved Nlapleton squad. Nevertheless, spirits were raised as ,much merriment was celebrated Sun- day night at the homecoming dance titled' Days of Future Past. 10 Introduction .1 .J 5 ' . 1 .fl fi , senior atte f .F mx x! . 1, ., 'tg 'L ' -u. 5 9 s Senior Class Leads School Through Successful Year :in Kathleen Amato Lawrence Arnold S,-J 1 in Robin Moore, senior homecoming attendant, with her parents. Under the leadership of Matt Gross and his staff of officersp vice-president Katie Fritz, secretary Margaret Dempsey and treasurer Chris Binsack, the class of '75 has carried on activities such as the pizza drive and a car wash to add to their enormous treasury. These, along with other activities over the four years, will be used to pay for their class trip to Lake Cumber- land State Resort Pa 'k in Kentucky along with the dinner dance at the Elks and their after prom party at Jollv Lanes. The senior class this year has rated high scholastically while they also have procured three morerconference titles, one in football, golf and basketball. The unity of this class and their concern for one another along with their co-opera- tion with the faculty and administration truly depict the Christian attitude of our school and should be exemplary for classes that follow for many years to com e. The class of '75 started off their fresh- man year deciding that by thetime they were seniors they wanted to have the largest class treasury in St. Paul history and that they wanted to break the traditional ,pattern of going on to Ohio Pile for their class trip. They started right in with a work day which gave them about 5150. They added a car wash and several bake sale, to a good sum at the end ofthe year. Sophomore year for the class of '75 also was very productive with the help of more bake sale, a birdcage sale, several car i washes and a few dances. During their Junior year the class or- ganized a magazine drive, several paper drives and a first in school history a money making Christmas dance. They raised enough money to purchase a stereo and other furnishings in preparation for their senior year. The class of '75 has reached both of their goals they broke the record for the largest treasury and they are not going to Ohio Pile. Charles Douglas Herner could make everyone laugh, he had a glowing personality and a desire to help everyone. Never was a harsh word heard from his mouth about anyone, and never was heard, from those who knew Charlie, a harsh word about him. Always ready to better himself, he participated, in Junior High football, basketball, and track, and he was a hard working and dedicated athlete.. Every Saturday in the spring he could be found at the miniature golf course, and everyday of the summer he could be found at the Municipal pool, enjoying the people around him. Everyone in the class of '75 loved Charlie, and he is greatly missed by all. Even through Charles Douglas Herner is not with us today physically, he is with us spirituallyp and' knowing. Charlie and the way he inspired our lives has made it a little bit easier to find the happiness in a sad song. The class of 1975 Seniors 27 rr D' Rev. The Saints had much to prove after losing so much talent from last year's championship team by graduation. How- ever, with a nucleus of returning letter- men and much hard work, the team was able to continue the winning tradition at S.P.H. ' After a rather shaky start, the Flyers put it all together in their conference opener against arch-rival Edisonp com- ing away not only with a convincing 21- 0 victory, but also avenging last year's loss to the Chargers. From then on the Big Red Machine was off and running. After an easy 20-6 triumph over South Central, the Flyers celebrated with a 14-7 victory over 'rugged Black River. Bouncing back from a heart-break- ing loss to Mapleton, the Saints pulled off two one-point victories over Westem Reserve and New London, including the first St. Paul victory ever at New London. With a share of the title already clinched, the Flyers swarmed all over a bunch of inspired lVlonroeville Eagles, coming away with a 14-7 victory and the conference crown. Capping a surprising successful sea- son, the mighty gridders from St. Paul completely dominated Crestline for a 17-6 win and a final 8-1-1 season record. 56 Football Alge s 1 A. HGLMAN s CHAMPS l The St. Paul Roundballers compiled a very fine 18-2 record, second best in the schoolls history. This was also good enough sfor a share of the Firelands Conference Championship for the very rewarding 1974-75 season. With the ,first six starting lettermen returning along with Coach Roger Holman after a fine winning record last season, the Flyer squad returned with very high hopes on this season, only to be handed a heartbreaking loss to Old Fort in the Sectional Finals. With four out of the starting five attaining mention in the Firelands Conference, they proved their dominance over thi less experienced and less ltalented opponents by running up a win streak of twelve games before their first set bac . During the winning streak they achieved' many highlights including the Cham ps of the tough Northwood Holiday Tournament, by defeating a very talented North Baltimore team by the score of 50-49. They also recorded a 71- 61 white washing at the Junior High over the Monroeville Eagles. Another highlight during the highly successful season was the establishing of the senior boy's Pep Club, Six Packers . The Six Packers and cheerleaders deserve alot of, credit as well as the fans' support which Thad been the best for several years at St. Paul. The officers leading the Juniors were: President Mary Beth Dixon, Vice- President Sue Kluding, Treasure Ellen Kline, and Secretary Cherly Collier, tpictured at rightl. Along with the help of advisors Paul Conry and Sister Mary Ligouri, S.N.D., the magazine drive and Christmas Dance were successful projects. These projects were not only successful in monitary value but also a factor in bringing unity to the class of '76, Not only a success in projects of their own, the Juniors also held their own in extra-curricular acti- vities.. Members of the class were able to earn starting spots on var- sity teams in boys' and girls' ath- letics. Junior participation in other activities such as S.A.E., Junior Achievement, and French Club showed their enthusiasm to- wards becoming involved in the school. The class of '76 truly displays the Spirit of 76 in heading to- ward their graduation and the country's 200th birthday. M Barbara Barman Deborah Boose L l' T - Charles Borgeson , k .s V t 1?
