Outside class teachers always seem to find time, between cor- recting papers and preparing for the next class, to give the student extra help on something in which he might be faulty. Our teachers can also be found supervising and advising var- ious organizations, clubs, and school activities. A teacher is not only a scholar but also a human being with indi- vidual talents and i n t e r e s t s , al- though the students seldom see this lighter side of a te acher' s life. These talents and interests explain how the teacher can be such awell- rounded person. voted an , The Students There' was a genuine teacher-student relation- ship at St. Paul High due to the general interest and generosity of the faculty. In the classroom the teachf ers acquainted their pupils with the knowledge they will need in furthering their education. They also pro- vided a feeling of satis- faction in each student enabling him to face life with integrity, courage and a desire for betterment. Mr. John Busam was the professor of the social' sciences of civics, modern history, and ancient history. Animal and plant life were taught by Sister Mary Alphonsus in biology class. Besides teachingPractica1 English, Mrs. C1i.ffordBrown was the school librarian. St. Pau1's instructor in French I and II, English II, and Speech was Sister Mary Giovanni.

Keeping order in the studyhall was the job of supervisor, Mr. John Snyder. Demonstrating latest business equipment, Sister Mary Jane helped prepare future secretaries. Mr. Richard Coffey taught Algebra I, General Science A, and general business. Relaying telephone messages was one of the many tasks of office secretary, Mrs. Owen Hickey, an appreciated friend to each student. When students are conscious of the human element in the lives of teachers, they find that co-operating with them is much easier. Not only that, but the pupils begin to realize that even though teachers try very hard to make the atmosphere of the school pleasant, the success of this attempt depends very much on their attitudes toward the instructors. With these things in mind, it is not hard to see why many students take a definite pride in their school and in their teachers. Richard Betschman, Harold Hipp, and John Snyder worked together this past year keeping the halls of SPH clean and did other maintenance work also 15
