Robert Hess, William Duhlo, John Gates. Paul Reineck. O preserve the high standard set by preceding St. Paul's football teams, the goal of the l93l squad which boasted but three lettermen. They accomplished this feat by giving a great battle and a fine display of football to powerful and bigger teams as well as to weaker opponents. Although encountering hard luck, the Streaks kept fighting throughout and were regarded as dangerous by all their opponents. The season's record of three games won, one tied. and four lost, does not rightly show their ability. They outscored their adversar- ies 60 to 65 and through their strong defensive strength allowed no opponent to score more than 13 points. ln the opener, September 19, the Crimson war- riors lost a close battle to Norwalk Hi's heavier Class A team by a 7 to 0 score. Improving with ex- perience the Saints breezed through with two suc- cessive victories over Vermilion 7 to 0 and Tiflin Junior Order Reserves 21 to 6. In another thriller. October 17 the Streaks came 4 from behind in the fourth quarter to tie St. Xvende- liu's at 7-all. A penalty kept the Streaks from pushing over the winning touchdown in the closing minutes. The following week saw the Streaks meet their worst beating of the year, a 13 to 0 defeat at the hands of Wlellington. Again the next week the Criinson-clad pigskin artists met defeat, this time to Port Clinton's heavier Class A outfit by :1 l2 to 7 score. The Streaks were forced to play without Mack and Dublo. injured baektield stars. Hampered by the swampy conditions of the field. a lighter St. Paul's team bowed to Crestline Hi. I3 to 8. Three times the locals carried the ball within the 5-yard line and three times Old Man Hard Luck stopped them. To Show that they were a strong football team. the inexperienced St. Paul's warriors took the field in the final game of the season with a supposedly stronger St. Mary's squad and walloped them 19 to 7 in a thriller which featured a long touchdown run by Mack and a 96-yard run by Mellein. gs J s

Paul's track team came through in great style this past season considering the scarcity of material at hand. The main point collect- ing was done hy a trio of track stars composed of Mack and Ufell. juniors. and Dunn. a senior. The Streaks lost the first meet of the season to the Mansfield Reserves on a muddy field hy an 80113 to L1-OLQ count. Next came a dual meet with Plymouth which the local tracksters won hy a scant 62 to G0 score. In the first triangular meet. the Crimson Flashes did remarkably well against stiff competition, gar- nering 410 points to Norwalk Hi's -115 and the San- dusky Reserves' winning total of 65 points. At the annual quadrangular meet, the local cinder pounders finished a close third. The final totals were Thompson GGQQ, Milan 63. St. Paul's UQLQ and hlonroeville 3-1-. Black was outstanding in this meet winning three first places and a second for a total of 22 points. Although favored to win their next triangular meet with Greenwich and New London. the Streaks were hit hy hard luck through the ineligihility of fkinrli Iiahele. f'lii'f'ord Brown. Anthony Wechter, Roh:-rl Mack, lil-urge Blinzley. Mack, thus heing forced to take the field with eight men. The final outcome of the meet was a decisive win for New London Hi which collected 81 points. the Saints following with 32-ilfg and Greenwich with 35. On May 1-L. Huron track stars proved too much for the local team in the last dual meet of the sca- son. the opponents going home on the long end of a 79 to 114,11 count. On May 28. a group of Saints' cinder artists went to the Mansfield Relays and collected 22 points for the largest total ever collected hy a St. Paul's track team at the district meet. Dunn and Gfell took first and second in the high hurdles while the half mile relay team composed of Mack. Gfell. Dunn and Blinzley ran a close second to New London. Several school records were broken this year. the most outstanding of which are the 100 yd. dash hy Mack in ll seconds Hatg the 220 yd. dash tied hy Hack in 241.8 secondsg the A11-1-0 yd. dash record was lowered from 58.5 seconds to 56.1 seconds hy lilinzley. Dunn also topped the high hurdle tim- hers in I8 seconds Hat for a new school record. 20
