The end of weekend Afros, the beginning of every day Dashikis. The end of scared colored folks, awaken to the “Truth” of a beautiful people with soul. The end of Black suppression, the beginning of Black smiles and pretty white teeth. The end of bondage, the beginning of labor as a Black man. The beginning of Black liberation and the building of a proud man cleansed of pretty white thoughts. The end of the days of what do you want boy? The beginning of let’s go Brother and what’s happening now Sister. The end of regis¬ tration, the Beginning of Black legislation. The end of break¬ throughs, the beginning of Black leadership. The beginning of joining, the act of creating. The end of the dark ages, the beginning of the Black age of brotherhood, survival, power and getting it together. Truly the end of the unwanted col¬ ored people; but the beginning of wanted Black people to relieve tired old colored folks. Now it s the beginning of the end of the beginning. Robert E. We are sure you know how deeply appreciative we are for the love, guidance, and understanding you have given us through the past years. Throughout the years you have fed and clothed us, nursed us through out illnesses, listened to our problems and tried to help us solve them. You have been our teach¬ ers, our counselors, and our playmates, but above all, you are Our Parents, who have, for four years, worked to put us through college so that we may be better prepared to face the problems of the world. This yearbook, we dedicate to you in hopes that it will express the fullness of our love and gratitude for all the sacrifices you have made for us. li ZZ ' Z fMpi ADMINISTRATION edited by m ichael w. smith President and Mrs. James Alvin Russell, Jr. 10 from 1. to r. Ridley, III Co-Photographer Larry Ingram Business Manager 155 Hindsight: The Beginning of the End of the Beginning The theme that was chosen for the 1972 Tiger seems at first confusing, or perhaps misleading. But the theme reflects the need for concentration and in- depth thinking that should exist in this mad world. The beginning of the end of the Blackman’s bondage and the beginning of the acknowledgement of his existence in and his contribution to his social sys¬ tem. The key to the success of this new beginning lies with ourselves—the Blackman. For we have to study, share, and understand each other before we can open the door to true freedom. The Tiger ’72 reflects the changing life styles among the College family here at SPC. The wearing of the Afro, the mod dress, the seeking of knowledge about ourselves and the world; the togetherness in fun and the inner fulfill¬ ment of a religious experience. These things are apart of that new beginning. If we continue to come together: perfect our “Family Affair” and then show the world that the Blackman is a part of, we belong and this is our social sys¬ tem, too; then that new beginning will become a concrete reality. When any task is undertaken with more than one person involved, one tends to run into many disagreements, headaches and “let downs.” I have not run into any unusal amount of problems, however, there were some. On the other hand there was a small group of persons who formed the nucleus around which the entire staff worked and led to the completion of this year’s annual. To Robert E. Booker, Gloria Burrell, Ronimus C. Brodie, Phyllis Lucas, Harvey P. Jacobs, Jr., Brenda C. Goodman, Larry Ingram, Constance Ford, Horace M. Satisfield, Katrina Hamilton, Julian P. Jones, Robert H. Ridley, Theodore Manley, Mildred Jeter and Mike Hunter, I owe a great deal of gratitude; for it were they who kept up the continous constructive criticism, gave of their time unselfishly, and labored endlessly to meet final deadlines. Thanks and “right-on” to the entire staff. Cecil T. Jones Co-Editor Tiger ' 72 , n 7 ' St ?J include s: Robert E. Booker and Cecil T. Jones Co-Editors; Ronimus C. Brodie-General Manager, Harvey P.
