T)can ’$ Message Dear Alumnus: I address you alumnus because within a few days after this book has been released on Saint Paul ' s Campus you will be an alumnus of this college, Class of 1960, As an alumnus, your responsibilities are not what they were as a student, they are much greater. As a student you had the constant care and guidance of the faculty. As an alumnus you will be called upon to demonstrate the maturity that the guidance to which I have referred was supposed to develop. The extent to which you demonstrate maturity in your every thought and action will measure the extent to which your college was suc¬ cessful in its attempt to develop you into the adult who justifies the very existence of this college. You must demonstrate maturity now. You cannot wait; you cannot rest; you must not procrastinate. You are living, not in 960 when men s thoughts reached only a lit¬ tle farther than their eyes could see, but in 1960 when men’s thoughts reach beyond eternity. You must be a contributing part of this outward reach. I have faith that you will be no less.
