Our classmates, our friends, our teachers have all played a part in this, our years at Saint Paul’s College. We have attempted to pre¬ serve the memories through words and pictures. You, the students, of Saint Paul ' s made it; you lived it; here it is - THE ’60 TIGER r-,v Zable of Contents FOREWORD DEDICATION EXECUTIVE COUNCIL FACULTY SENIORS JUNIORS SOPHOMORES FRESHMEN ORGANIZATIONS ATHLETICS ADVERTISEMENTS Zhe yearbook Staff of 1960 Editor-in-Chief - - - Assistant Editor - - - Art Editor. You will hear Alexander and advisors Law and Jones muttering something about the deadline. Alan: Wait, there’s a picture missing. Oh! those sophomores, why do they all have to have faces? Lillian: Rush! Phone Law, tell him those pictures must be in by the seventh! Samuel, The Business Manager, But do we have enough money for that extra page? Irving, can you get your car? We must work this afternoon. Alexander, Get Wright and Lillian on this typing immediately! These are but a few people behind the yearbook. They have rushed, fussed, and fumed to bring you an unforgettable yearbook, and here it is, The Tiger. Class Sponsors Dedication To our advisors, we give thanks. You have helped us in many ways. These ways may seem small to everyone else, but not to us. We realize that the little things can mean a lot. Many things have we learned from watching your ac¬ tivities day by day. We are thankful for this. The class of ' 60 dedicates this TIGER to you, Mr. T. H. E. Jones, and Mr. Thomas Law. It is our own past which has made us what we are. We are the children of our own deeds. Conduct has created charac¬ ter; acts have grown into habits, each year has pressed into us a deeper moral print; the lives we have led have left us such as we are today. - - - Dykes Jh MeMoriam MRS. MADELINE JONE McCLENNEY WIFE OF OUR PRESIDENT We often sit and think of her when we are alone. For memory is the only friend that grief can ever own. Like ivy on a withered oak when all other things decay. Our love for her will still keep green and never fade away. President ' s Message TO THE MEMBERS OF THE GRADUATING CLASS OF I960; I congratulate you for reaching this stage in your educational growth and de¬ velopment, and I hope you are ready and willing to say, Of thee we sing, DEAR ALMA MATER. Saint Paul ' s has made every effort to bestow priceless gifts upon your heads and in your hearts - respect for academic excellence, wisdom, truth, humility, honor, service, loyalty, brotherhood, manhood, womanhood, and reverence. We hope you are now prepared for more abundant life. Remember that cooperation, hard work and a desire to contribute something worthwhile to a better Christian and democratic way of life will lead you to a successful life of contentment and happiness. In the years to come you will appreciate Saint Paul ' s more and more. Keep a special place in your hearts for all of us, and especially the College. The Col¬ lege will never forget you. We sincerely wish for you success and happiness in all your undertakings, and bid you Godspeed. Earl H. McClenney T)can ’$ Message Dear Alumnus: I address you alumnus because within a few days after this book has been released on Saint Paul ' s Campus you will be an alumnus of this college, Class of 1960, As an alumnus, your responsibilities are not what they were as a student, they are much greater. As a student you had the constant care and guidance of the faculty. As an alumnus you will be called upon to demonstrate the maturity that the guidance to which I have referred was supposed to develop. The extent to which you demonstrate maturity in your every thought and action will measure the extent to which your college was suc¬ cessful in its attempt to develop you into the adult who justifies the very existence of this college. You must demonstrate maturity now. You cannot wait; you cannot rest; you must not procrastinate. You are living, not in 960 when men s thoughts reached only a lit¬ tle farther than their eyes could see, but in 1960 when men’s thoughts reach beyond eternity. You must be a contributing part of this outward reach. I have faith that you will be no less. MR. THOMAS M. LAW, Treasurer-Business Manager THE REVEREND ALEXANDER H. Class Poem If we could turn back the hand of time, It would reveal our days at Saint Paul ' s sublime; Few days of sorrow, more of joy and bliss Our staff and classmates made certain of this. We have struggled hard to reach the goals That could satisfy our immortal souls, To meet the challenge of the world today And help all others along the way. Dear Saint Paul ' s we love thy hills so green, A life so pleasant, divine, serene; But time moves on, saying, Depart! Depart! From the hallowed place, dearest to our heart. We shall always be kind, loyal and true We ' ll uphold the high standards inspired by you, We ' ll wear our armor, both day and night We ' ll keep the faith, we ' ll win the fight! By Elsie W. Spence Class Song THEME; STUDENT PRINCE Dear Saint Paul ' s we make our vows to you In our many humble ways, You ' ll stay with us in our minds day by day And we shall never from you stray. We will ever ever love you, for you ' ve helped us on our way Believe us, Dear Saint Paul ' s we ' ll always love you, our Alma Mater true. Though the class of ' 60 loves you But the time has come to go, We ' ll never forget all your pleasant green hills and all that lures around you. Signed Irving Green Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless. In all things preserve integrity; and the consciousness of thine own uprightness will alleviate the toil of business, soften the hardness of ill-success and disap¬ pointments, and give thee an humble confidence before God, when the ingrati¬ tude of man, or the iniquity of the times may rob thee of other reward. - PALEY Every man should use his intellect, not as he uses his lamp in the study, only for his own seeing, but as the lighthouse uses its lamps, that those afar off on the sea may see the shining, and learn their way. - H. It is May 30, 1970, and we are celebrating our first class re¬ union. Our toastmaster for the evening is William Roots, that famous Saint Paul ' s impersonator, who made his debute on the stage of the Chicago Build¬ ing. While talking to the class, I learned many things that were of interest. Some of them are as follows: Albert Alexander is a big time contractor who was responsible for the first skyscraper on the moon. Employed in his office as duster is the great Lillian Morings. She seems to be enjoying her work. William Brown has a good office job, emptying trash cans and in his spare time he dusts the typewriter. Mildred Daise and Lois Howell are still singing Catch a Falling Star. I hope they succeed since they haven’t caught anything else. Adelle Crockett is going up in the theatrical world. She runs the elevator in Hollywood. Blanche Gaitor is still in business (other peoples). Sherley Stuart is still chasing girls. I hope that he will soon catch one. I have learned that Gloria Walker and Sarah Walker are making barrels of money designing L. W.D. ' s. Mary Holt, Joseph Weston and James Wilson are employed at a speech clinic for all babies between the ages of 3 and 12 months. Elsie Spence has invented a girdle for ex tra slim people. It is held up by suspenders. Tillie Bonner has finally put her beautiful second soprano voice to work. She sings in a country choir. Jesse Carter has just written a book, How Not To Lay Bricks, based on real experimentation. Get well soon. Vernon Daniels, John Diggs, Irving Green, and Alexander Hargraves are employed at the same hotel, as bell hops. Dorothy Evans is now employed by Thaddeus Hagans. She is his mouth piece in all business deals. Lucy Green can finally distinguish between Blue and Brown. She married Black. Class Prophecy Lois Hayes and Louvenia Harmon have been in the hospital suffering from heart trouble, (Love Disease). They are about to make a comeback, also on this list is Alexander Hargraves. James Hubbard and Henry Hollimon are still clean. They are working for the Health Department. Gloria Jenkins, St. Clair Jones, Grace Pearson, and Ruby Woodley are trying to develop a pill that will reduce all unnecessary fat. Fredrick Johnson and Robert Johnson have discovered how to reduce feet. Alfonso Tinsley and Lewis West are doing wonders in the automobile indus¬ try. They run a junk yard for all demolished cars. Gatha Richardson is still married and sells pencils on the corner for extra change. Audrey Fitzgerald is working for the Featherweight Mattress Company. If the mattresses are as light as Audrey, they are superb. Elenor Williams is the proudest dishwasher in Danville. Shelton Penn has invented a serum when injected into a chicken produces fried, deviled, and scrambled eggs. Alan Thomas, unfortunately, cannot be present due to an explosion when he tried to take his own picture. Daisy King, a famous cosmetologist, has this bit of advice to offer all young girls, Don ' t rouge your face, paint it. Barbara Kyle, Quentin Lambert, and St. Clair Jones have their heads to¬ gether in an effort to succeed without knowledge. Fannie Midder has finally gotten into money. She married a Texan. Susie Terry is doing the pigeon (dance) for the President of the United States. Good Luck, Susie! Claude Miller, that great speaker, makes extra change selling wagon wheels. Lillian Nobles got caught in the mad rush for New York and now she is singing, Show Me The Way To Go Home. Class Prophecy Jeanette Rice won first prize as best marble shooter of the year. Charles Wardell is still trying to be a lover. He is doing his level best to put Clark Gable out of circulation. Shirley Burton and Charles Shirley were sent to the Geneva Conference to see if they could settle their dispute. I see they are being presented with a Nobel Peace Prize Award. Barbara Pettus makes a good living working in a nursery (for chickens). Kenneth Wright and Otto Washington are in town planning for an inter¬ planetary trip. The weather is cold, so they are stacking up on L.W.D. ' S. Sophia Johnson makes puppets for a living. Therasa Wilkins now runs a Lonely Hearts Column. Georgia Parker has finally hooked a husband. She is here on her honey¬ moon. Congratulations, Georgia! Samuel Lockley has put Frankenstein out of business he has created a new monster called Yelkcol Leumas. Senior Directory Albert T.
