PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT TO: THE MEMBERS OF THE 1958 GRADUATING CLASS Dear Friends: It is a special pleasure to greet and felicitate the members of this Saint Paul’s Class of 1958, for you represent the final group of graduates in the second full generation of students during my administration. Moreover, several vital and challenging accomplishments by the College have been achieved during your tenure on the campus. Not the least of these was election, announced late in 1957, of Saint Paul ' s to membership in the United Negro College Fund, along with one other college - the first additions to this great organization since its establish¬ ment. Equally as heart-warming for all Saint Paulites is the revitalizing of spirit and loyalty within our Alumni family. This was dramatically signalized last spring when the College-Alumni fund drive exceeded the $50, 000 goal by over $6, 000. We at the College have steadily striven to strengthen the academic offerings, improve our facilities, and to meet the challenge and opportunity which a church-related institution faces to provide a sound, spiritually im¬ pregnated education. During your years here there have been landmarks of progress in those objectives. Saint Paul’s has broadened its program, offering a second (A. B.) degree, eliminated all non-degree courses, and pro¬ vided a significant new facility - the College Center. You go out now into a world of crises, of scientific accomplishments - and nuclear threats - undreamed of only a decade ago; a world of tensions, social upheavals, and yet a society of solid advances, especially for minorities, and of enhanced opportunities. It is our devout wish that your years here have prepared you mentally and spiritually for participation in such a world. Finally, the College hopes it has instilled in each of you a true loyalty to it and to its ideals. Never in the history of education has there been a time when private institutions required the continuing financial help, and unflagging interest through the years of their graduates, than now. We won’t forget you; we entreat you never to forget us. Sincerely yours, Earl H. McClenney President The President and students discuss¬ ing St. Paul ' s College election in to membership in the United Negro College Fund.
