CLASS HISTORY On September 5, 1948, two hundred and five students embarked upon a modern adventure. Leaving behind them the carefree existence of high school days, they came onto the campus of St. Paul ' s Polytechnic Institute with many vivid mental pictures evoked by that magic phrase college life. At the sight of the waving grass, the leafy sycamores, the campus walks and rolling hills, we knew we ' d stumbled upon a Utopia. The Freshman placement examinations brought us to our senses with the impact of a small bomb. After three days of this mental torture, we believed ourselves to be well orientated to this new life. However, along came some all right people with some all wrong (to our thinking) ideas of initiation which served to bring us to our senses even more. (This time with the impact of a large bomb.) Only the strong influence of our Advisor, Mrs. Frances Thurman, kept us from going off the deep end about those canes, bows and haircuts. Guided by her, we enjoyed an exciting Freshman Ball and finished the year with the usual confusion attendant to frosh groups. September, 1949, found us back again, this time in the mantle of the wise fools. Not quite as strong in number but with redoubled energies, one hundred and thirty-four huddled under the comforting wing of our Advisor and fought off our second year studies.
