During the past year, the Glee Club, a major activity in Cathedral High School, has gained new laurels for our school. Through diligent prac- tice at every opportune moment, the girls have produced a bigger and better operetta and an ex- cellent spring recital. After many hours of hard work, the combined voices of the first and second Sopranos, and the altos, have reached musical perfection. Without the songs of our Glee Club, our years at Cathedral would not have been com- plete. V' l,, on ,.....-l , Q Pictured are senior members of Cathedral's Glee Club. Time, energy, and enthusiasm are the ingredients necessary for a successful organization. Glee Club members have meas- ured up to these standards. Other events held at Duquesne Gardens are col- lege and professional basketball, hockey matches, and the ever-popular ice revues. Senior members of Cathedral S Varsity are manager Charlotte Ann Waters and forwards Betty Woll and Lois Rihn Joining the Varsity in their freshman year, Lois and Betty have contributed much to its success Charlotte assumed responsibility for all transportation and arrangements Although the scholastic requirements of the junior year demand much study and concentration, the juniors still find time for extra-curricular activities. Cathedral's varsity owes many a victory to the fighting efforts of the junior players. Junior Glee Club members captured leading roles in this year's operetta. ln the past three years, the juniors have built a firm foundation of achievement. Blllllll li A HRM l0lI The junior Clas took part in many new ventures this year to correspond with their new status as upperclassmen, Their study of the modern languages has given them an insight into the lives and Customs of other peoples Receiving efficient training in typing and shorthand classes, many juniors are preparing to take their place in tomorrow's business world. With the confusion of the freshman year behind them, the sophomores have es- tablished themselves in the family ofCathedral. Newfriendships have been formed, and their senior big sisters have aided them greatly in becoming familiar with all phases of life at C,H,S, 'Class time took on an added interest this year. Al IHI HAHWAY MARK Plunging into the study of living things in biology class, the sophomores' col- lection of insects and the discoveries they made in the lab were chief projects in the adventure of exploring the unknown. Geometry proved puzzling at first, but in a very short time the sophomores were successfully solving complicated theorems. At the halfway mark in their high school life they look forward to the prospect of becoming upperclassmen. Q if L Filled with all the excitement and enthusiasm which accompanies that first day' in high school, the freshmen began their 'class time' at Cathedral. Boldly they came, they saw, and they conquered' their Latin grammar and vocabulary. Our freshmen have done equally well with the many complex signs and symbols BEGINNING NHHN MASS HMI As a class the freshmen are exceptionally high in school spirit. Every basketball game and school activity will find them eagerly cheering on their new Alma Mater. Displaying their musical talent, the freshman Glee Club presented a Christmas program which will be long remembered. The male roles were played by Centralites, jack Briley, Mike Nash, and jack McGough. ln the class play, Our Hearts Were Young and Gay, we traveled on the wings of time back to the 'roaring twenties, when Cornelia Otis Skin- new and Emily Kimbrough made an ocean voyage to Paris. The plights they had, the troubles they encountered, the diseases they overcame, the act- ing lessons they took - kept an appreciative audi- ence in a gale of laughter throughout the whole play. The double cast, headed by jean Roney and Eleanor Morin as Cornelia, joan Reilly and Teresa Prendergast as Emily, gave fine performances that will long be remembered. 37 Turning back the hands of time, Cathedral 's Glee Club presented the operetta, 'A Waltz Dream with music by Oscar Straus.
