Mensing, J. Hallberg. ROW 3: C. Belden, B. Ades, L. Hassinger, G Cam, D. Shields, P. Hartnet. Band The band this year was under the direction of Mr. Storti. They had a very busy year with their Spring con- cert, Christmas concert, and participation in the district and state music contests. The band received four A+ 's and twenty-one A's at the district contest. Also this year a swing band was started. It played for many school dances including the carnival. It turned out to be a very big success and everyone hopes it will continue. A band clinic was held at the Park School in March with six schools participating. Many helpful suggestions and ciriticisms were given to the different bands. The band has always been an organization of which the school can be proud. This year's band was no exception. Some of their many activities this year were the Christmas con- cert, spring concert, district music festival, Baccalaureate, and participation in the district music contest, which was held at Mahtomedi. A few soloists performed at the state music contest on May 2, at the University of Minnesota. One of the highlights of the year was a tour of the North Shore area. It was the first attempt of the choir at an activity of this type, and it was a very big success. They gave a concert at Two Harbors and toured through Duluth, Ely, Two Harbors, and the range area. 48 CHOIR OFFICERS Mr. Parrish, G . Jewell, B. Hubbard, G. Smallidge. SENIOR SEXTET B. Hubbard, K. X Homecoming To start off Park's 1957 Homecoming festivities, a rousing pep fest was held in the hall at school. On the same day, October 11, at 6:30 p.m. a parade consisting of floats from grades 7-12 and convertibles with lovely queen candidates, worked its way through the business and residential sections of the Park. The team brought home a much -needed victory over Mahtomedi. The final score was 20-12, and everyone seemed to agree that we really Severed the Zephyrs. At half time queen candidates Sarajane Exe, Sharon Frans, Gloria Mack, and Gretchen Jewell, were introduced, and Mayor William Fastner crowned pretty Gloria Mack queen of the 1957 Homecoming. To celebrate the highly successful game, a dance was held on Saturday, October 12. Shades of our school colors, green and white, decorated the gym. A short program was held before the dance, and later in the evening Queen Gloria Mack and King Don Chinander were introduced, with Junior King and Queen, Martin Oehlke and Joanne Momsen. Gloria's attendants were Sarajane, Tootie, and Gretchen, and their escorts were Ed Steele, Lorne Kittleson, and Ed Bartch. Homecoming activities were under the direction of Billie Lee Hubbard and her assistant, Sharon Kahnert.
