The Genesis Of Our School Twenty-five years ago, in 1956, one hundred students attended Santa Fe Catholic High School, located in two classrooms at St. Marianna's de Parades Elementary School in Pico Rivera. In or- der to avoid confusion with the public high school, Santa Fe, the school's name was changed to St. Paul the next year. In 1958, 325 Freshmen and Sophomores attended school there. St. Paul High School moved to Green- leaf Avenue in Santa Fe Springs in Janu- ary 1958. At that time, four classroom building units, the administration building, and the chapel were the only buildings in existence. The science laboratories were finished in the fall of 1958 and in March, 1959, the shower-locker building was completed. The multi-purpose building used as a gym, auditorium, snack bar, kitchen and faculty dining room was fin- ished in September, 1960. The final con- struction of the '500' building, which ad- ded eight more classrooms, was finished in 1964. Due to the annual chocolate sales, Swordsmen Stadium was built and used for the first time at the June, 1965 graduation exercises. Fr. Moschel, as first principal, had the task of setting up an atmosphere that would encourage students to live their Christian ideals. After eight years of his guidance, St. Paul Highfs philosophy was firmly established. Fr. Cranham, as next principal, continued to build on the foun- dation that Fr. Moschel had set. His dedi- cation and hard work did not go unno- ticed. Fr. Cranham celebrated his investi- ture with the St. Paul community on Feb. 10, 1969 when Cardinal Mclntyre con- firmed upon him the title of Monsignor. Swordsmen Stadium was later renamed Monsignor Cranham Stadium to honor a man who had done so much for St. Paul High in the seven years he was here. The next six years saw Fr. Ryan's influence in St. Paul activities and administrative deci- sions. He was a man well-liked by all St. Paul family members. After his retire- ment, Fr. Carroll, who had been the Fi- nancial Director at St. Paul for two years became our next principal. For the past five years, he has stood as a strong lead- er, appreciated by all students, faculty, and parents. Led by the insight of our principals, past and present, St. Paul High has been able to preserve its Christian philosophies and provide students with a well-rounded education. 7 SCHOOL CREST Patron Saint Paul Motto Christ Lives In Me Colors Navy Blue and White Crest Sword Shield Scroll and Laurel Wreath The School Crest is made up of certain symbols in order to represent the meaning of St Paul High School The sword sign: fies a commitment to truth regardless of consequences The shield is a symbol of our faith and knowledge which helps us to greet challenges with courage The scroll wreath is a sign of our unity in Christ over sin and death by our own sharing in His Resurrection and our ultimate unity with the Father Son and Holy Spirit is-...,.......s--0-......,,,, E S Qffiiiitf A E 5-V, -. -tv 8 n. is K kkrk ,gk hh V No 500 building? The front view of St. Paul High School. ST. PAUL Saul was born both a Roman citizen and a Jew. ln the Jewish tradition, he was educat- ed at home and then sent to Hebrew schools, where he memorized Scripture and learned of Jewish history. He set out to destroy the Jewish commu- nities who had accepted Jesus. But then Paul was converted to Christianity, and he began his missionary work as an apostle of Christ. He traveled for nearly thirty-five years, setting up Christian communities all over the world. Paul endured great suffer- ing: he was beaten, stoned, scourged, impris- oned, shipwrecl-red, and finally-in Rome about 67 AD. -was beheaded, The Church is also indebted to St. Paul because he was the first great Christian theo- logian. lt is believed he was one of the few yyw, ,.1,+Wh Km li rig . 1 fe Emi' tri . .' may fl- i fi 1, J .
