The Genesis Of Our School Twenty-five years ago, in 1956, one hundred students attended Santa Fe Catholic High School, located in two classrooms at St. Marianna's de Parades Elementary School in Pico Rivera. In or- der to avoid confusion with the public high school, Santa Fe, the school's name was changed to St. Paul the next year. In 1958, 325 Freshmen and Sophomores attended school there. St. Paul High School moved to Green- leaf Avenue in Santa Fe Springs in Janu- ary 1958. At that time, four classroom building units, the administration building, and the chapel were the only buildings in existence. The science laboratories were finished in the fall of 1958 and in March, 1959, the shower-locker building was completed. The multi-purpose building used as a gym, auditorium, snack bar, kitchen and faculty dining room was fin- ished in September, 1960. The final con- struction of the '500' building, which ad- ded eight more classrooms, was finished in 1964. Due to the annual chocolate sales, Swordsmen Stadium was built and used for the first time at the June, 1965 graduation exercises. Fr. Moschel, as first principal, had the task of setting up an atmosphere that would encourage students to live their Christian ideals. After eight years of his guidance, St. Paul Highfs philosophy was firmly established. Fr. Cranham, as next principal, continued to build on the foun- dation that Fr. Moschel had set. His dedi- cation and hard work did not go unno- ticed. Fr. Cranham celebrated his investi- ture with the St. Paul community on Feb. 10, 1969 when Cardinal Mclntyre con- firmed upon him the title of Monsignor. Swordsmen Stadium was later renamed Monsignor Cranham Stadium to honor a man who had done so much for St. Paul High in the seven years he was here. The next six years saw Fr. Ryan's influence in St. Paul activities and administrative deci- sions. He was a man well-liked by all St. Paul family members. After his retire- ment, Fr. Carroll, who had been the Fi- nancial Director at St. Paul for two years became our next principal. For the past five years, he has stood as a strong lead- er, appreciated by all students, faculty, and parents.
