Just as the sailor . uses the star as a guide, we too look to a star for' our guide Mary, Star fof the Sea Mary, Star of the Sea Oh Mary, your light Shines 'forth in the night In danger your glory will reach us. In on-rushin g tide Your beacon will guide To strengthen, encourage, and teach us. With colors raised high The hoats seek your eye All ships-every liner and dory. No hardier crew Is thinking of you As a model to work for God's glory. The world is a stage Maybe less-just a page In a log book. We all have our places. ln word and in deed Your message we heed To work, pray, and play for your graces. We'll stand at the mast 'Till the trouble is past All keeping an eye on your star. So onward we sail In quest of the grail Both fighters and victors we are. At the start when we launch We're not very staunch We trernhle in fear of the dangers. But shortly we learn To tack and to turn And thus our old fears hecome strangers. Then half way along With hearts full of song We ride well the high pitch and roll. The challenge is won! Our voyage is done! At last, we arrived at our goal. Ta ioie ot Contents Title Page . . . Dedication . . . Administration . . . Organizations . . . Activities . . . Sports. . . . Freshmen . . . Recently, Father has seen one of his dreams realized in our beautiful new multipurpose building-a real advance in smooth sailing at St. Paul's. Everyone is acquainted with Father's untiring labor as administrator of St. Paul's but few know how he spends his leisure hours. Father likes to spend this precious time traveling, swimming or iust relaxing in California's cool, green mountains. lt is my privilege to offer thanks each morning at the Altar of God for devoted faculty, both lay and religious. May they be rewarded for their zeal and loyalty. I am equally grateful for a wonderful student body whose spirit, cooperation, and en- thusiasm knows no bounds. May God bless each and everyone of you. jedi QQQHML4 REV. LAWRENCE DUNPHY In his role as assistant to Father Moschel, re- ligion teacher, and athletics director, Father Dunphy contributes much to Saint Paul's. Father's enthusiasm overflows in the students' outstanding school spirit evidenced at the games. 7 . . and from our Deans. My dear girls, As we receive our yearbook, the LUMEN, we are reminded that another year has gone into our book of lite. You, girls, must keep this word LUMEN deeply engraved on your life's book. LUMEN-LIGHT! A light gives radiance and warmth. Let the radiance of your goodness en- lighten and brighten a world in darkness. Let the warmth of your kindness and love melt the cold- ness of sin-chilled humanity. Though your life's light may be small, united with the Lgvely Lady of Light you can be a veri- table sunburst of radiant splendor. Walk always with that Lady who will lead you ever onward to the Light of the World! Yours lovingly, XQMQV Qsiffiswh as send , f X ,f 8 Bon voyage, graduates, in your iourney through life! May your days be happy and fruit- ful for your church and coun- try. You have the glorious op- portunity of making this world a better place to live. Remem- ber, opportunity never knocks twice. Now is the time for you, the undergraduates, to prepare for graduation so that you may be equipped for your next step in life. Life comes to you in min- utes. An ounce of foresight is worth a ton of hindsight. God love you always. May you al- ways love Him. ,3,.ff6ae4:s,0.s.,: ff Important assets to our administration are Mrs. Shia, our serretary, and Mrs. Gillen our registrar. ln the past four years our library has grown from a few books to over 5,500 volumes, This growth is due to contribu- tions made by various convents and parishes as well as indi- vidual donations. The goal ofthe library this year has been two-told: to in- crease the number of books in the 400, current biography, recent fiction, and magazine sections and to encourage a spirit of independent study among the members ofthe student body. This spirit is evidenced during the quiet study periods throughout the day. u-1--gg-pu--s---... at MRS. The knowledge that we gain here does not remain within the confines of the classroom but it is correlated in our academic and social lives. Thus, religion assumes its proper perspective and becomes a way of life and not just another course. FATHER G. DAWSON, C.Ss.R. Ordinarily, daily Mass is held in the chapel.
