RILEY Eighth Grade Class History A day in September in the year one thousand, nine hundred and forty-two was a momentous occasion in the lives of seventy-two youngsters who con- verged upon the threshold of ST. Paul High School. From this group, Martha Jane Austin, Hilda Knox, Lozie Couch, and Edgar Glovier, were the only ones to complete their high school training here twelve years later. Events and years passed quietly and happily by, and, in the third grade, they were joined by Mary Belle Addington from Dante, and Dana Hileman of St. Paul. Arvena Salyer joined them from Sunnypoint, in the fifth grade. Mary Robinette enrolled in the seventh grade from Dry Fork, Virginia. Soon after this, in their eighth year, Norma Wright, Monroe Holbrook, and Joyce Evans, from Dwina, Virginia and Fern Livingston from Pineville, Kentucky entered the class. Their junior year brought Edward Johnson from Castlewood, and Kenneth Mclnturff from Dante into the class. Darrell Lambert enrolled in the senior year from Clinchco, Viriginio. Bobby Buchanan, after a brief delay, resumed his senior year here. Peggy Blevins and Janet Doyle, by taking five subjects during the regular year and attending summer school for two years, were qualified to enter the senior class in 1952. During their freshman and sophomore years the group was busy ad- justing to high school life. In their junior year, the class published a school paper, and gave the play, Let Me Grow Up. Their senior year was busily occupied with publishing the annual, giving the senior play, Honey In the Hive, by Donald Payton and carrying on the general class business. Valedictorian for the class was Lozie Couch. Fern Livingston and Hilda Knox tied for salutatorian honors.
