FOOTBALL-CCont1nuedJ Our next opponents were St Marys Hrgh School of Cortland rn a night fray October 6 It was about 7 00 P M the crowds started fillrng tne stands the band clad rn green and whrte capes were marchrng on the field playrng the Alma Mater rn a short trme the two teams came out from the dressing rooms rn a few minutes the game was on In the first quarter Casey romped wenty yards for the first touch down In the second and thrrd quarters nerther team scored Early rn the last perrod St Mary s pushed over a tally the score now was 7 7 After St Patrick s received the krck off Capt Jerome Ryan ook matters rnto hrs own hands and ordered to be grven the ball He carried the ball four consecutive trmes for a gain of sixty yards and a touchdown This game endrng rn favor of the Emeralds and our second vrctory The next two contests both bern played away wr h St Alloy srus Hrgh of Pome and Green H1 h School on October 14 and 21 respectrvely were defeats Rome wrth a heavv team and strong offense took the contest by one pornt The Emeralds fought hard and barred Pome from crossing the goal lrne on drfferent occasrons Early rn the thrrd quarter Pome charged through our lrne for brg gains resultrn rn a touchdown In the final period we backed them up to therr own goal they tr red to krck but rt was took rt over rn three plays the ame ended 7 6 The nex week we lost to Creene 7 0 St Patrrcks took the field without Bill Courul regular guard who suffered a brd rmury rn the I ome game and wrthout several backfield men who were hurt rn practice Matthews and Warner showed up good rn a passing combrnatron whrch threatened the Greene team rn the second quarter but the half ended without a touchdown McDonald due to a broken hand had been out of unrform so far thrs season but broke rnto the Greene game and gained many vards through center and on off tackle plays for the Emeralds In our next game on November 3 we defeated Susquehanna 7 6 Up to thrs time the Pennsylvama boys were undefeated Cahill McManus and Ford starred defensrvely for the Green and White Whrle Purdy McDon ald and Horney rn the backfield made many nrce runs St Patrrck s were without Dutch Warner who broke hrs collar bone rn the Greene game In the final contest of he year St Patrrck s held the strong Sherburne eleven to a scoreless tie The two teams punted frequently The Lmeralds threatened once but lost the ball on the twelve yard lrne on a fumble Emrl Kovac Al Rose and Lorrn Telfer shared the honors defensively and Johnnie Green drd some nrce passing whlle Capt Pat Ryan Red Casey of St Patrick s and Capt Walnod of Sherburne copped the honors rn puntrng To end the football season the team was given a dance rn the school audrtorrum Letters were awarded to seventeen play ers and Manager Robert Green 5235 4- 4- 4- 4- 4- 226 v 1 u y , . .
