It was a year which displayed greater emphasis on reli- gious, social, and extra-curricular life. ln all, the St. Patrick High School of 1964 was a foundation of learning and guidance with the object of helping us toward our future Christian life. A new and daring concept in teaching, closed circuit television, became a normal part of school life in the West Building. Special programs explaining our community along with television classes concerning stu- dent services were presented to the students via this improvement. For the first time in our history, we gained possession of a league championship in football. What a great precedent to leave with a school! We again continued a tradi- tion in basketball, as once more we were hailed as the powerhouse of the league, capturing as many titles and trophies as were in sight. St. Patrick has finally seen the coming of a resident chaplain. The availability of daily Mass, Communion, and Confession has led many to hope and work for a stronger and more universal religion. Aiming in these di- rections, the services of the chaplain are in- deed beneficial to the student body. Certainly, the new wave of student re- sponsibility manifested in the councils of our Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, and the new School Council, was among the most dynamic changes at St. Patrick. These young men repeatedly experienced the ioys and trials of extending to the stu- dent body the chance to accept the respon- sibilities of manhood. The Thanksgiving Dance, one of the main proiects which they conceived and sponsored, proved to be a great success and a step toward achieving their long-range goal. Their assemblies, well planned and efficiently executed, will long be remembered as the first of their kind. Student government had given us the freedom to be men, and the most ioyous time came when we responded to this chal- ienge. Finally, looking toward the future, a pro- gram of expansion has been set over a three year period. When our goal is met, St. Patrick will have a new gym with facilities for a swimming pool and handball courts. The gym will be easily converted into an assembly hall quite capable of handling dramatic arts presentations. indeed this past year will be known for its great and diverse innovations-new con- cepts-good things in themselves, and as a very solid foundation for the future.
