1959 IIA f'DfX Presented by the Senior Class, SAINT PATRICK HIGH SCHOOL CHICAGO, ILLINOIS Preparation . . . half the battle is the beginning. The seniors of Saint Patrick have spent the past four years of their lives in preparation for the beginning of a big battle so-to-speak: spiritually, mentally, and physically. It is our desire, as the class of '59, to thank Saint Patrick High School, and all those connected with its operation, for helping us to prepare for the embarka- tion on this great voyage of life. We think this can be done and sincerely hope that it is accomplished by the relatively insignificant recognition given by this, our annual of 1959. 'BDEDICATION The Senior Class of 1959 wishes to show its esteem and gratitude for the heritage which is theirs as Christian Brothers' Boys. Therefore we dedicate this book to Brother James of Mary, Brother Hilary Eugene, Brother Henry Stephen and Brother J. Arthur, whose one-hundred and seventy years of combined service have made this heritage so real for so many. May we but add our thanks to those of the more than 26,000 other students who have profited so much from your efforts. 15 !!' 2' ,- fa ..-h OUR PRINCIPAL BROTHER L. Assistant Principal Fr Organization is essential for the success of any endeavor, be it large or small. lt is through the work of the Administration that such success may be attained. Through the guidance of the Administration the student acquaints himself of his obligations of Chris- tian morality to himself and to his neighbor as well, This is accomplished by setting forth a program of religious and secular studies, as well as a wide range of co-curricular activities sanctioned by the Administration. lt is through their help the student receives his guidance. eshman Building gg yi., . ,y . These people are the ones who help to maintain that which is necessary for the order and organization of a wellfconducted school. Their services are found in the areas outside the classroom, such as the office, the cafeteria, building maintenance andthe kitchen. i 419 CAFETERIA WILKENS MR, W. WILKENS MAINTENANCE MR. H. YCS does this by its weekly meetings where problems in these vital areas are thrashed out on a practical level. On a school-wide basis YCS has sponsored a Sock-Hop , the Christmas Basket Drive, a Career Conference night, a closed retreat at Vaugirard Retreat House, and a Day of Recollection. An outgrowth of the meetings and other activities has helped the YCS members achieve a togetheiness which gives Chris- tianity the dynamism it has shown in the past two centuries. 1 t: V, YCS FlFTH ROW: J. They distribute and operate these machines in the various classrooms and elsewhere when needed. These students undergo intensive training in the operation of the various proiectors, recorders, phonographs, and slide projectors available. Various field trips of interest to them in this particular work are planned for each month of the school year. These may consist of lectures, demonstrations, and visits to centers that feature electronics and audio-visual equipment. P.A.L.S. CLUB The St, Patrick Association for Library Services devotes its time and effort toward improving the library, and rendering useful help to the students in the library. The students who participate in these activities receive invaluable experience in human relations, training in the demanding processes of library work, and acquire profitable knowledge of the various techniques involved in handling library materials. The Club holds monthly meetings, annual elections of officers, and participates in various social affairs sponsored by the Club.
