I O We lovingly dedicate our 1957 AQUINAN to all of our parents- Who have made innumerable sacrifices so that we might have the advantages of a Catholic educationg Who have surrounded us with material advantages and at the same time have given us a sense of values to put them in their proper place: Who have opened out to us a vision of worthwhile things to achieve in this world as a stepping stone to eternityp Who have loved us enough to give us necessary correction and guidancep Who have always shown an interest in our scholastic and extracurricular under- takingsp Who have been our inspiration and our ideal, an embodiment of what we hope to achieve-Christian maturity. ffnwt. - ' ,aiu 1 ,. -U r '10 W W W W N 3 W 1 ,..,,A ,N W , , i 7 4 N V , s. .J -:A Y 1,91 W Ja ' '15 W i. Bishop of Spokane To our Most Reverend Bishop, His Excellency, Bishop Bernard J. Topel, we wish to express our gratitude- For his constant interest in our spiritual vveltareg For his part in providing the inspirational Rosary Rally which has given impetus to our spiritual development, For his words of congratulation at the football victory banquet and for his re- minder: that intellectual achievement is more important than athletic, and spirit- ual gains are most important ot all. For his column in the Inland Register that is like a weekly visitg For his tatherly concern that all of us choose our vocation in life according to the wishes of God. A TRIBUTE Congratulations, Father Pautler, on the occasion of the Silver Anniversary of your ordination to the Holy Priesthood. lt is with gratitude and praise that we recall the many blessings of which you have been God's instrument during the past twenty-tive years. May God bless you for your efforts in our behalf and may He give you many more years in which to dispense His treas- Ul'eS. VERY REVEREND HUGO PAUTLER Pastor of Saint Patrick's Parish Championships are won because a team or individual played each game as though that particular game meant the championship. Life on earth is a constant striving toward that championship which crowns the purpose of life on this earth. During our lives every year and every day is filled with individual contests toward our maior goal. In the series of games toward a championship some games will stand out like higher peaks on a mountain range. So also some events and some years stand out in our lives every day as having maior influence in the pursuit of our goal. We hope the T956-57 year at St. Patrick's will be remembered by the teachers and pupils as one of the higher peaks in the rugged struggle to Conquer The hlgllesl- Your devoted Pastor, rink?- - I' The Students of St Pats Education is the knowledge ot how to use the whole of oneself to attain the sublime end for which one was created. Many men use but one or two faculties out of the score with which they are endowed. A man is educated who knows how to make a tool ot every faculty-how to keep it sharp and how to apply it to all practical purposes. If there are no tools in your kit for your SPIRITUAL FACULTIES, your tool kit is not complete. If they are there, but rusty and dull, you will not attain that sublime end for which you were Devotedly in Christ, ,QPJCLW created. REVEREND ALBERT A. AUSTEN Pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish REVEREND PAUL A. WENNING Pastor of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Dear Seniors: The successful termination of your course at St. Patrick's High School is an occasion of great ioy to you, your relatives, and many friends. Congratulations! We trust and pray that your Catholic education will help you direct your lives toward the goal of eternal happiness. May you be truly apostolic in spreading truth and goodness as you learned it in your stay at St. Patrick's. May God's grace be abundant, and may the Blessed Mother be your constant help. After the immortal year was brought to a close, there were three months of neighborhood terror. During this period, the grand finale of this first year of education was completed. As September rolled around, there was another hill to conquer. The gallant class of '57, under the leadership of General Lucille Theresa, charged full speed for the top. Along the way the addition of Frank Locati, Janet House, Tony Pugliese, and Walt Fortier made the charging forces stronger. After three months' furlough, the troops were again reorganized under the leadership of Miss Andres. As the fight again got under way, it was a give and take situation, but with the addition of Jerry Stalder we forged ahead. After giving St. Pat's three months to rebuild the school and bribe new teachers to try handling us, we again brought the call of battle to the doors of St. Pat's. We re- assembled, with Bob Sorey and Roger McDowell making this our most successful year. Again we had to give St. Pat's three more months to recuperate, but we made up for lost time when we took our positions in the old fort. Along the way we trained Terry Johnson to our tactics. We were all natural-born fighters, under Sister Judith Marie. We were the same hard-fighting gang, under Sister Armella. We knew in a few more years we would have control of the whole school. The seventh grade troop, under the guiding hand of Sister Celine Marie, was taught how to run their own classes. Most of us, including the new soldier, Patsy Connelly, liked this new kind of freedom. You see, after three months of swimming and playing tennis, we didn't feel like being tied down. Sister Xavier taught her platoon many things, especially how to behave like ladies and gentlemen. Under her firm hand, our platoon, with Rita Doetsch, was mustered out with full honors, and we would soon enter those adioining rooms that would eventually give us our high school diplomas. The summer disappeared with a suddenness and we were creeping towards our new barracks with a slight twinge of weakness. The halls were new, the teachers more and different, but our incentive was still high. With Sister Valerie wearing the captain's stripes and with the addition of Karen Knowles, Marlene Riomondo, and Joe Adams we marched through our first year of high school. Nine months . . . they came and went fast. The three months' vacation would be iust a gentle lull before the storm. The floors were slick and shiny, the .blackboards spotless, and a certain sophomore class was raring to go. With Sister Eugenia heading the march, and Don Aylward, Patti Doocy, and Linda Winn, we stormed through our sophomore year at a pace unequaled by other classes. The shrill blast of a bugle and the thin strains of taps drifted out from the walls of good ol' St. Patrick's. The iunior year was upon us. Helen Van Doren hit camp and with Sister Valerie being drafted for a second try as our combat leader, we found ourselves iust around the corner from the Sheepskins. For the fourth and final time we arrived at the little solid red building. Little did we know of the success that awaited us. From the best football team in the state to being scholastically high, we finished with generals' buttons, given to us by Five Star Gen., Sister Louis. Va. ll may ,J Q Q: an Q.
