Youth the burning light 0 tomorrow Truth wisdom understanding All linked together to orm A rosary o peace We Speak Our Lines. . . MANLY MAN Have you ever wondered just exactly what the ideal male would be like? During my years at St. Patrick's I have come in contact with some swell fellows, each one prominent in my mind as possessing an outstanding quality for which I admire him. I f it were possible to infuse into one man these separate virtues, I would have my manly man. Let us name this fictitious character BRAD. First of all, Brad would have to be as willing to go out of his way for others as Roman Ropella goes. Roman is in the habit of attending all out-of-town games. He knows that I work after school, but even if it makes him late, Roman always waits for me. This fellow would have to be as willing to admit he was wrong, as Torn Connelly admits. Brad would also have to possess a great deal of respect for girls. He must be, as A. I. N owoj is, willing to keep his vocabu- lary free from cuss words and vulgarity around girls. Brad would have to be as humble as an old teacher friend, Father Francis 0'Neil. He would have to have the backbone guts? o Bill Murphy Not long ago two couples were at the home o a junior girl As the evening progressed the conversation grew exceedingly vulgar W e were shocked into silence when Bill pointed quite calmly to the window sill and said Look who been watching' There stood a statue o the Blessed Virgin I know and so do you that no one is per ect Yet some day somewhere i I wait long enoughj I will ind a man who is as close as possible to a combination o these ellows and all the lest like them And i he will have me we will be married and soon we will be raising someone s manly man ifwmf TEMPTA TION There it lies Spread about with 4 gleaming Sur ace YOUTH Pop' Blackness And then The tedious pathway' 0 li e Youth the oundation o the uture F irmness tolerance strength All molded together to orm A groundwork for the world to lean WILDERNESS f . -2 f, Q . 2 . . f ' . . - -as if ' ' .
