St Patrrck s Hugh School had Its most successful basketball season In lrrsh hrstory thus year Father Trresch drrector of athletrcs for the thrrd year coached hrs boys to therr thrrd consecutive Jamboree trophy and thrrd strarght county champronshrp wrth an undefeated record Thus, St Patrrck s took permanent possession of both coveted trophres ln the county league race the hugh scorrng Irrsh crushed therr opponents rn every game to remarn undefeated In league play making the count Q3 wrns and 1 loss rn the last three years under Father Trresch The B squad thus year suffered therr frrst set back rn three years of league play ln spate of the fact that rnjurres hut three of the starting varsnty the hard drrvrng Irrsh averaged 60 points per game agarnst 34 for the opposrtron and substrtutes were used lrberally every game The lowest league score set up by the green ond Gold was 46 pornts whale therr highest effort was a mrghty 84 rn therr last home contest 8 of these pornts came rn the frnal 90 seconds Wrth two sprarned ankles and a broken thumb plagurng the varsrty frve St Pats downed 17 foes and suffered a 1 pornt set back Then St Pats lost one by 5 pornts the largest advantage that any team held over the Catholrc qurnt The lrrsh easrly entered the frnals of the sub distract tournament but lost a heartbreaker by the margrn of Q pornts rn the last seven seconds They then traveled to the State College at Pullman for the drstrrct meet Al though leading all the way an off form lrrsh team dropped therr op ner 43 to 41 rn the wanrng seconds to the Pune Cnty Trojans who went on to the state tourney ln their consolation game St Pat s again led all the way untrl the frnal minutes before bowrng out to Endrcott 44 to 49 Although St Pat s lost 5 games thus season, all were by narrow scores The lack of experrenced subs seems to have made the drfference ln the entrre schedule of 99 games the lrrsh were never behrnd at the begrnnlng of the fourth quarter The lrrsh are going to mrss such Senior stolwarts as captarn Rrchre Lee Tom Nrebergall and Jean Dacres but the future has some brnght spots because John Walker and Red Golden were voted to the all star team at the sub drstrrct tourney The followrng summary of the last three years shows the 1947 48 edrtron of the Alder Avenue Aggregatron to be the best rn the school s all time hrstory ,C Games Field Goals Fouls Foul Shots Fouls Made C of Pornts Won Per Game Per Game Per Game Per Game Fouls Made Per Game St Pat s Opponents St Pat s Opponents St Pat s Opponents Charles Loosveldt WINNER OF INSPIRATION AWARD N be Kenneth Knowles WINNER OF STUDENT ATHLETE AWARD F, . 5, . - 1 y l 1 . 1 4 5 '45 .
