Why7D but the figs kept the class from looking her up that one time September 'I944 saw 49 of us being put through the rigors of the first all week initiation at St Pat s High We suffered, but trlumphantly, sand our homeroom teacher, Sister Augustinus Nesta Basta winner of the ple eating contest without getting a bit of juice on her new jacketj, Alice Faro, Philip Hermann, Doris Manuel, and Evelyn Yeager were agog at life at St Pat s Plenty rugged at seemed but they persevered Eileen Golden and Tom Niebergall won the grand prize for bazaar ticket selling whereby each became STO richer Our five pagan babies, the part we played In war bond and stamp drives, our race with the Seniors for the Loyalty Cup lost by only a slight margin, Mary Munns speech award our thoroughly enjoyed picnic honoring the Seniors at Kooskooskle, and our generous gift of library books to the school will long remain in our memories The inspirational retreat that year was preached by Father Hooyber, CS C of Portland Richard Lee was our able Frosh President Une high light of the year was the publication of the first AQLIINAN and the lowest of the low lights was he pl As Sophomores with Sister Dolorosa our homeroom teacher, we struggled all year to win first place in various snapshot contests for a bigger and better AQUINAN Mary Munns as president organized with us an exciting skating party and the elite Senior Sophomore break fast Neta Applegate, Joanne Jansen, and Charles Loosveldt came to add their spice to our numbers Our old friend Pat Maher thought St Pat s looked pretty good again Phil Hermann and Richie Lee placed in the speech contest and Helen Pugliese, Eileen Cwolden, and Patty Walker made one of the perkiest little cheer teams that we have known Helen and Pat Maher were two thirds of the next years cheer team, too, helping the lrish to their good records Carma Brown was baptized in the spring and great was our rejoicing with her in her deep happiness That was the year, too, that Deloris Arnold had the feminine lead in WHAT A LIFE Active in Sodality work, for Catholic press Month we staged our original CATHOLIC LITERATURE ON TRIAL by way of a class assembly We left a table to our homeroom for the statue of Our Lady Our Junior year brought Sister Elenita hamburger sales Burton Van Dyke and his green Ch sler, another skating party and some of the best raffles and sales ever held around here l ctober we participated in the Living Rosary at the Academy shrine The Junior Senior Prom was super duper The Loyalty Cup will forever bear our numerals as a result of our rating first in the all classes assembly with HERE SHE COMES THERE SHE GOES Two new activities engaged our attention The lrish Report over KUJ with Pat Maher as MC was ably supported by Arnold Stokes, Class Prexy Richie Lee, Philip Hermann, and Mary Munns Listen ing in Mondays at 615 P M became a fascunatin habit The event of the year toward which we all bent every effort was the CANTlCLE 0 THE YEARS occasioned by the centennial of Catholicism un Walla Walla Valley What angels pioneers, lndians cowboys, and chorlsters we did prove to bel ln the Spanish assembly, La enorita Lulsita Pansy Spohn otherwise demonstrated that a fan can be a handy little gadget on which to pin one s unmemorized lines A statue of Our Lady In the Junior room bears our year plaque We helped elect Richie Lee our next year s leader of the student body and after bidding a tear stained farewell to the Class of 47, we took up our tasks of manning the citys food canning establishments to earn some cash for our Senior year . . , .
