It seems apropos to make horizons and spirit the subject of my message to you. Horizons and spirit, new and old, of the parish of St. Nicholas of Tolentine constitute the very heart of my message. Consider the first church, a garage chapeli' and seeit grow in less than a year, with the laying of the cornerstone of the original church. That church should be very dear to you gradu- ates. Mary Magdalen chose the better part when she sat with Christ and learned Eternal Wisdonu from Wisdom Eternal. You are like so many other Marys since your very classrooms were formed out of the original church where the Lord had dwelt. Now this site is to be used for greater grammar school facilities and this to be a new modern high school, a rectory, another convent, a central heating plant. You leave your beloved school to pass on to new horizons. God grant that you attain those glorious heights of earnest endeavors. Take the Spirit of Tolentine with you wherever you go- spirit and zeal of Tolentine will enable you to reach new horizons. God bless you! FATHER RAYMOND J. STENGEL, O.S.A. Soclalify To jesus Through Mary is the motto of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality Each Sodalist strives to the best of her ability to attain this goal by living the Sodality way of life. This way of life includes a careful observance of the rules of the Sodality which bring us into a closer com- panionship with the Mother of God. The Sodality is a means by which its members are offered a way to achieve self-sanctification and also the sanctification of others. Through the helpful guidance and direction of our moderator, Reverend john S. Cleary, O.S.A., the Sodality has been assisted in seeking a path toward our goal, Ad Jesum Per Maritim. Artists, printers, needleworkers and typists find opportunities to display their skills each week. All finished products will be used at the Autumn Festival held at St. Dominic's Convent in Blauvelt. Senior girls reverently ask for guidance at the Mass of the Holy Spirit Our pastor, Father Stengel, prays preparatory to blessing the traditional rings. 70 1.1 -. . i- , ,A ,sam E IOR HAT and RI G The blessing of our Senior rings, an event which has become very dear to Tolentians, took place on October 10th, 1956. Father Stengel presided over the ceremony with the entire school attending. The ring is the insignia of the Senior. It represents four years of not only a great deal of pleasure and happiness but also many days of hard work. The blessing ot this ring makes it a greater reminder of our Catholic education. As Father Stengel blesses the Senior rings, the girls' faces reveal the sacredness of this moment. Before returning to their pews, the girls pause a moment thanking the Lord for the happy years spent at Tolentine. HOL if . V M' V .,.' ' ' K N:-3:93 i . Aileen, under the able direction of Professor James Moore and the untiring efforts and patience of Sister M. Germaine was a complete success.
