Still small in number, although Joan Steckel's return from Europe made a welcome addition, the Senior Class has been busy every moment. The first half of the year was concentrated on studies, interrupted only by the Senior Class Tea honoring Miss Evans, and the Bazaar, where their cake walk and hot dog stand of- fered both fun and profits. The yearbook and the Senior Play, Our Hearts Were Young and Gay, required complete attention for the re- mainder of the year, but Senior Week provided a time of much needed relaxation. Culminating their year with the Senior Prom, a gala night for juniors and Seniors at the Arctic Club, the Seniors find their memories crowded with friends, facts, and frolics, and thank Mother Mates for her sponsorship throughout their last two years. Fm goin' on at diet gzzmdrop tester Fi Carolyn . . . sweetness . . . ,U Canoflgm Colman Carolyn has led a very versatile career at Saint Nicholas. She entered in her sophomore year and by the second semester had been president of our class. She was one of the remaining fifteen to struggle through the Junior year. In 1958 she received the Home Economics Cup for her outstanding work in sewing. Conscientious in her studies, she was chosen as chemistry laboratory assistant during her Senior year. She has also been active in Latin, helping to make the Latin Assembly a huge success. With a quiet smile and generous thoughtfulness, Carolyn has gone through the years as a beloved member of our class. Canolgm Cog We shall have indelible recollection of the exu- berant, though oftentimes suave, Carolyn. Her un- failing class spirit is paralleled by a most apparent grace and dignity. Having come to Saint Nicholas in her Sophomore year, she became an immediate addi- tion to the class. Her generosity, adaptability, and sincerity are perhaps the traits which best explain her faculty of winning friends. It did not take her long ro demonstrate her capabilities in class offices, as she served dexterously as captain, vice-president, and sec- retary. She worked assiduously with a paint brush and was Art Editor of the Jinx as well as Assistant Art Editor of the Cantoria. Coy. . . lzmclamoutla . . . Claim! girl . . . jog CDQMQQQ joy has been on hand through thick and thin with the Seniors, never quarreling, always supporting, no matter what it was that we attempted. Greatly appre- ciated and very active, she has been a member of Nonette, Assistant Editor of the Jinx and of the Cantoria, Secretary-Treasurer of Lambda, and through all four years has given a helping hand as the class secretary. Cum Laude this year gave her recognition for her academic achievements. The chemistry class will not forget the smart girl in the back rowg the school will not forget the girl who whole-heartedly gave her support to activities which were of benefit to othersx Jilamcg CDM Nants has been with us for six years, but she will live in our memories for many more. She has a humor and a vivacious gaiety which we could not-do without. We will not forget Nancy as she calypso-ed rather than walked to her classes, yet, in spite of her obvious vitality she has a serious side. Nancy's two and a half years culminated in her winning of the Cum Laude Award. Her athletic abilities and en- thusiasm for the class are shown by the fact that she ably served as class gym-captain throughout her high school years, while in her Sophomore year, she was Treasurer of A.A. She also acted as class president in her junior year. Nancy's combination of enthu- siasm, humor and intellect will always make her a favorite. Nant! . . . antics . . . Diehl , . . Mrs. Ybni Sailer expressions judg Qmge judy's selection as Mary in the Christmas Pageant of her Senior year seems most appropriate for she is the girl in the Senior Class most suited for the part. Her sympathetic kindness and generosity will 'al- ways be remembered, as well as her radiant smile, known to everyone, and her devotion and loyalty to high purpose. Her scholastic achievement in bio ogy and loyalty to duties as biology laboratory assistant won her the Biology Cucp in her junior year. She was in the Speech Play uring her Sophomore year and participated in the Latin Assembly her: Senior year. In her Junior year Gail was the business manager for our Fashion Show, and its great success must be attrib- uted to Gail and her hard work. Chosen as Best's Fashion Board representative from Saint Nicholas and elected as Treasurer of the Senior Class, Gail combined poise and eiiiciency. This capability in business management is Gail's most outstanding at- tribute, but her acting ability came to the fore in her portrayal of Emily, a leading character in the Senior Play. Skilled in athletics, she was a member of all varsity teamsg talented also, in the field of music, Charlee has been in Glee Club for three years, was a member of Nonette during this last year, and took part in the modern dance and Christmas festivals. Her representation of Saint Nich- olas on Nordstrom's Fashion Board numbers also among her interests, but her greatest responsibilities came to her as Senior Class President, a job which she has carried out with great efhciency. Although very busy during her high school years, Charlee has always had time to sympathize with and advise her classmates in times of trouble. x Jimi Cflimowlies Although a comparative newcomer at Saint Nich- olas, Ann has proven her ability in many fields. In her junior year, she was our class president and the reci ient of the Scholastic Advancement Cup for her academic achievements. Because of her singing tal- ents, Ann became an enthusiastic member of Nonette and President of the Glee Club. During her Senior year, the difficult job of Cantoria Business Manager was placed on her competent shoulders. Co-operative and enthusiastic in her support of our class activities, Ann's spunky personality, sincere smile, and origi- nality have endeared her to our hearts. Mutt . . . faithfulness . . . j. It seems only natural that the position of Cantoria Art Editor should belong to Dana whose illustrations, covers, and programs for the Quill, Jinx, our last year's Fashion Show, and the Senior Play are proof of her talents. As Secretary of A.A. and as Sopho- more Class Captain, she illustrated her talents in the field of leadership. Her numerous amusing articles written throughout her eight years here have given insight to the witty personality which earned for Dana the lead part of Cornelia in the Senior Play. Cpczmmg tjlllilllimgtom As an intimate friend of all, Penny has been a cherished member of the Senior Class. Although she came to Saint Nicholas only three short years ago, she has definitely proven herself a. valuable asset. The positions of Editor of the Jinx, Secretary of Student Government, and then Vice-President of the same, were only a few of her responsibilities. As Editor of the Cantoria, Penny particularly proved her capability of leadership and organization, even beyond the call of duty. Active also in sports, participating on many of the teams, she still had time enough to study, earning her membership in Cum Laude-an honor which she well deserved. Mill yi. . . perseverance . . . She held the po- sitions of Treasurer and Vice-President of A.A. and has played on the varsity teams for both volleyball and basketball practically every year. As President of the Freshman Class and Vice-President of the Senior Class, Sal clearly showed her ability to lead her classmates. Her wonderful compatibility makes her a welcome addition to any group, and her sense of humor is unmatched. Always near at hand, her antics never fail to bring a laughg Sal's the perfect cure for despondency! glfisa CPQWQQQ There are hardly enough words to describe Lisa's achievements during her past years at Saint Nicholas. She began her Sophomore year as Editor of the Quill and ended it as Secretary of Student Government. As time went on, Lisa proved her abilities as Editor of the Jinx, Vice-President of Student Government, Class Captain, and recipient of the Creative Writing Cup. Another year passed and again Lisa scored- this time as head of the student body and Literary Editor of the yearbook. She also has the distinction of being the only Senior to have been in Glee Club for four years. Lisa will always treasure most, however, the memorable time she had in Germany as our first A.F.S. Exchange Student. Her goals were high, but they were accomplished, this is Lisa, leader of our class. Steak . . . Juhtlety. . . Her wry, enter- taining sense of humor is combined with a quiet sophistication to make her a most enjoyable and like- able classmate. Humorously satirical, her works of art occupy places of honor in the Senior Lounge. She can always be relied upon to give us a correct answer when we are puzzling over our French home- work, her proficiency in that language won her the difficult role of Monsieur De la Croix in the Senior Play. During her years at Saint Nicholas, she has served the class as secretary and, this last year, as Alumnae Editor of the Cantoria. Many and varied, her interests are skiing, a return to Europe, and, at the immediate present, self-instruction in the Russian language. Besides these leadership qualities, Wendy has a genuine enthusiasm for everything she does, both in A.A. and in her class. This enthusiasm comes from her interest in many things-sports, music, and artg in fact, her talent at the keyboard as well as the easel is well known to all. Always cheerful and anxious to please, Wendy is hard to find fault with, and, because of her versatility, we of the class of '59 will remember her as one of our all-around girls. 1 Len ' sem 4 m, . Among her past activities were included the Sophomore Class presidency and the position of copy editor of the Quill. She is a great enthusiast of skiing as well as swimming and has shown eager participation in all class activities. Judy's conscien- tious attitude rates highly among her outstanding at- tributes. cJZlVlVlQ ClMllQUlIMQl!l To all outward appearances Anne might seem shy and easy going. Her striking blonde hair and con- trasting dark eyes, coupled with charming poise, ac- count partly for the fact that she was chosen to represent our school on Frederick's Fashion Board. In the Christmas Pageant, Anne most appropriately played the leading part of the beautiful Hand Maiden. She has taken an active part in all school activities, was a member of Glee Club, and has held numerous class oflices throughout the years. They began with a Hallowe'en Tea honoring Mrs. Mates and followed up with two projects to increase their class treasury-the ski fashion show and the car wash. Their rous- ing class spirit helped them to win the volley- ball cup for their second straight year, along with the much coveted basketball championship, and they carried on junior tradition with their publication of more outstanding Jinx editions. The Junior Prom was the climax of their year, however, and provided a most wonderful and gracious intermission-between-semesters for juniors, Seniors, and faculty alike. But none of these successes would have been possible with- out the able and understanding guidance of Miss Doreen Lidgate, their class sponsor. The class tea fol- lowed in December, honoring Mrs. Prichard, who also, as a member of the English Depart- ment, helped the newly elected Quill Staff which has been working hard on this year's literary publication.
