Quis ut Deus It seems like only yesterday that we timidly ap- proached St. Michael's for the first time. llere we entered into a new world, a world of countless opportunities. llcre we received thc loving care and guidance of the sacrificing priests and sisters. llere we were taughtlto love one another and pattern our lives after Our Lord, and here we came to know St. Michael, the archangel, our protector and our ideal. This homey atmosphere at St. Michael's has created a loving spirit that is second to none. lt is very diflicult to try to explain in writing just what this spirit is, for it is a spirit of an internal nature. lt is expressed hy the actions of thc faculty and students alike. lt is a hond that unites so many diversified personalities into one big family. At the head of our family is a loving father whose arms always are extended to embrace the trials of each Michaclinian. This Miehaelinian Spirit perme- ates the entire school. We find it in the love and under- standing shared mutually hy faculty and students. We find it in the zeal of the students toward their studies aml activities. Finally, we find the expression of this spirit in our athletic letlttts. ln this our yearhook, the Michaclinian, we hope to give our readers a deeper insight to the Nlichaelinian Spirit in the hest way we know how. lly portraying the various phases of school life, we hope to show the influence of St. Michael in our every day life. As we leave St. Michael's, having replaced our timidity with a courageous outlook to the future, we may forget many things we have learned, however, ever vivid in our minds and hearts will he the hond that has united us in becoming true Michaelinians, the Michael- inian Spirit. gd... 1' A-X,.,.v.-...J-.A ' , ': ,li k Wu.: L 2 ,ga 4 N- , ,Zim 6.55 Hr -1-'1 cc. Hy your ex- ample, the spirit of St. Michaells was instilled in our hearts to remain there always. Co- operation, unselfishness and friendship have reigned over our school life. just as a ship needs a captain, so we, as students, needed leaders to guide usg you have been our leaders, capable and true. You have given us much, but most of all you have hrought us closer to the Passion of Christ which per- meates the spirit of St. Michaels. Father Timothy Stockmeyer, CP. Father Wendelin Meis, CP. ..!-. Sister M. Luella, O.S.F. Father Edward Hennessy, CP. To our beloved Father Edward, we are truly indebted. Father has been more to us than merely our superintendent, but much rather the Spiritual Father of our Nlichaelinian family to whom we have turned for guidance and love. Teaching senior Re- ligion is part of Father's busy schedule, through which he has kept the Michaelinian Spirit ever aglow in our hearts. Though our high school days have drawn to an end and we now leave, Father Edward will always be near us, among our fondest memories. We are fortunate indeed to have not only Father Edward, but also a fine Principal in the person of Sister Mary Luella. Sister has become very dear to all Michaelinians and her radiant smile has brightened many of our days. Our best interest has always been the motive for all she has done for us. It has been Sister's loving care that has strengthened the bonds between faculty and students making our school at- mosphere that of one happy family. FATHER TIMOTHY, C.P. SISTER M. D i' 1' i . x David watches as Father Edward blesses the senior rings-before they are received. Ring Day....,41ewz'aj1fAe One of the most memorable events of our Senior Year was Ring Day. It was one of the happiest Clays of our school life at St. Nlichnelys, for we became true Micliaelininns. Beginning with Mziss in the morning we offered ourselves to God, thanking Him for the three wonderful years already spent here. We asked l'lis forgiveness for all the mistakes we made and all our shortcomings. We implored Hiili to help us continue in His grace and obtain the most from the opportunities afforded us. We will always remember the inspiring words of Father Edward, who reminded us of our posi- tion as seniors in the school. He said that our rings are symbolic of the lVlichaelinian Spirit and that in receiving them we became true Michaelinians. He reminded us that the senior is the heart of the schoolg it is his love and spirit and sacrifice that unites all Michaelinians into the family that we are. We felt a great responsibility that morning and we were determined to defend the Michael- inian Spirit and keep it ever glowing in our hearts and in the hearts of future Michaelinians. Many thoughts run through the minds of the seniors as they wait to receive their rings. Ill 'U The seniors look solemn as they are led back to school by David, the senior server and Daniel and Harry, the class presidents. The seniors, filled with excitement, enjoyed a breakfast prepared hy the juniors. The activi ties of Ring Day were climaxed by an evening dance. We are united in the purpose for which we attend St. Michael's. Under the protection and guidance of St. Michael we are educated as Christ-like individuals. During these formative years we try to gain the wisdom of our patron--the wisdom of de- cision. St. Michael knew no compromise and there was no alternative except the right way. This spirit should be a living, vivid quality that becomes a part of us. In our classes this wisdom in making correct decisions is formed through the iniiuence of the teachers and communication with other students. This prepares us for making important decisions in later life. Having acquired this virtuous strength of mind in regard to our convictions, we have made the years at St. Michael's fruitful. Upon leaving St. Michael's, we should be equipped to face the world with the wisdom of an angel Michael and the holiness and purity of a saint. CLASS S Q 2 -vs, Q Row 1-I. to r.: J. But upon leaving, we are com- forted hy the fact that the following class will uphold this fine tradition as true Nlichaelinians with success rewarding their constant efforts. And now, standing at the threshold of future endeavors, we wish to pass this spirit which we have inherited on to you so that it may lead you on to better and brighter roads. Keep her cher- ished in your hearts, dear Juniors. Guard well the traditions of our Alina Mater. We came to St. Michaels for an education and found here opportunities beyond that which we hoped for. Here the commercial student was prepared to meet the business world, fully equipped with all commercial needs. The fcollege menl academic studentls needs were pro- vided for in extensive college preparatory courses. In addition, all students were taught courses in Religion, English, social studies and homemaking, thus providing a well rounded education. The faculty gave of their time unselfishly to provide every possible opportunity to the student and for this we are truly grateful. We were taught in our classes not only the facts, but also, and more important, the application of these facts to our future lives. Our minds were sharpened and broadened and taught to think in a clear Catholic manner. Educated men and women, we now leave St. lVlichael's to reap the benefits of our Catholic Education. Being the heart of the school, we were required to convey the ideals of our Alma Mater and to preserve all the principles that had been 'laid down as guides to success and achievement. Our taslc was dilficultg not only did we protect a reputation that had been acquired over a long period of years, but also aspired to raise our school to loftier heights. With such responsibilities, we were fortunate to be under the protection of Saint Michael. , It was with the aid of his mighty shield and sword that we guarded the stand- ards at Saint Michael's. Just as Michael took weapons in hand and with courage stood to defend what was right, we too have done our best to light evil and retain peace within our beloved school. ' There were times of success and times of failure, but never did we lose our power of determination, a power derived from the spirit of the -Michaelinians before us. Now we take our place among the alumni. With a feeling of satis- faction we hand to our underclassmen the heritage of the Michaelinian Spirit. S I .Jgr f 1111? Equipped with Wisdom, we will have courage and strength to carry the spirit of Michael throughout our life, to defend our ideals, and to practice our Faith amidst the attacks of 20th Century Lucifers. We will carry with us the gleaming sword of Michael, a symbol of truth. Its possession will prove to be a source of security, a medium by which we will slash away all obstacles that hinder us in the achievement of our goal. And always, as we abide by the principles instilled in us at Saint Michael's, we will live in the shadow of the shield of Michael. Its power of protection assures us that the archangel will always stand over us ready to rescue us from any danger, and that he will speed to our side on fleeting wing to aid us in all difficulties. Yea, our school spirit does not cease when we leave our Halls of Ivy, but rather the atmosphere that has governed our high school days will prove to be the greatest influence in our lives-this is theltrue Michaelinian Spirit. 525.00 St. Michael's Alumni St. Paul's Monastery 510.00 St. Henry Church Father Anthony Boosa Rev.
