:fix : ,X k BASKETBALL it we an A jump ball was called for 'after Bernie Biedzinski fought for the ball. This was a fine example of the fighting spirit that the whole team showed in the past season. The pressure mounts as the players face a de- cisive contest. The boys listen intently as Mr. Ruppen gives special last minute time out in- structions to the two forwards: jack Carleton and Tom Lucas. jack Carleton, a four year basketball player and this year's captain, receives his award from Mr. Ruppen at the testimonial dinner held in Doc's honor.

ii r Interested parents see the work of their chil- dren at the annual art exhihit. Not only are the parents proud of the artistic work, but junior himself seems quite happy. HOME AND SCHOCDL A new and very welcome organiza- tion was recently added to St. Michaelis. This was the Home and School Associa- tion. Although only two years old, it has achieved a variety of accomplishments, including the renovation of the seventh and eighth grades, and re-decoration of the grade school library. Among their future plans is included the remodeling of the high school cafeteria. The former success of their achievements will assure this fine organization of continued suc- cess in future endeavors. That the monthly meetings of the Home and School Association are serious business can easily be seen here as Mrs. Scihel, the Corres- ponding Seerctary, finishes her report. fl957+ ff if musclzs and minds in aclzau An athletic program is a necessary part of the curiculum of every school. One of the functions of our athletic program here at St. Michael's is the basketball team. Under the direction of Howard Ruppen and Star,' Bielewicz, the boys on the team have been guided in the many methods of ball hand- ling and shooting. Although the boys didn't win any championships this year they learned from their coaches the ideas of fair play and good sportsmanship. After eighteen years of service to our school as athletic coach, Mr. Ruppen bowed out be- cause of other pressing duties. At a testimonial dinner held in his honor, Mr. Ruppen received long over-due praise. Looks as though he's enjoying his meal.
