Page Fourteen Class l'lustory Because the port us near we are now on deck of the ship DESTINATION which was launched un September l94l In our anxiety to reach the port safely we can t help but look unto the distant past Unsurmountable duffucultues umpossuble studies and varuous obstacles seemed to dum the outlune of an otherwise pleasant plan Yet we are bound to be carrued back so that we may the better appreciate the present The day us dreary stull un uts foggy dumness we see the curtain of an advanced education drawn up at last St Muchael s Hugh School us silhouetted against the background of an uncertaun future fufty four freshues green as grass made theur appearance we pass the portals and are unutuated unto the enchantung realm of the great unknown we do not hesitate cautuous steps are taken but we show furmness un spite of eveI'Ythung The shuny gold bar on our neat blue and white uniforms stands out luke a beacon lught dustunguushung us from mere eighth graders of a few days ago We go rught unto rank and ut doesn t take long for us to become a part of the school we had chosen All too soon the freshman year wuth its enchanting actuvutues comes to an end Three steps more lead to the exut full realuzatuon that the coveted tutle of luttle darlungs was passed onto another group and sophisticated sophs was our heritage two bars now adorned our uniforms and these were displayed wuth a feeling of pride honor and satusfactuon Fully aware of the fact that even one year at S M H helped to broaden our outlook we advanced un earnest trying to make a success of all undertakings The Hallowe en party was our furst great undertaking and the staff as well as the students were un for a surpruse because of the orugunal display of talent and unutuatuve Thus furst publuc adventure met wuth huge success and ut was thus moment that acted as an uncentuve for future and greater achievements Home Nursing was enuoyed ummensely under the capable durectuon of Muss S Buernacku now un the armed forces Reflecting back on that tume many happy moments are attrubuted to the nurse who made education worthwhile and unterestung Sweet memorues crowd un upon us and un our gratitude we remember her at the Foot of the Taber nacle May her reward be great' Deeply rooted wuthun our hearts and memorues us the thought that we are fulled with a better understandung of the value of a thorough education and we funushed another milestone sluppung almost unconsciously unto the next year two more steps The beacon lught of the lighthouse of memorues shone almost tenderly so that we on deck could get a full vuew of all that was going on Forty gurls returned to the Junuor department Three bars oh' what a feeling of satusfactuon enveloped each student the thurd bar had an unusual effect upon all we were umbued wuth an exceptuonal amount of ambutuon school spurut soared hugh' Everyone took for granted that we were born leaders or contributing to varuous funds we always luved up to thus tutle That year we discovered hidden talents such as sungers poets artusts dancers and comedians for a better understandung of the spurutual lufe we were ushered unto a three day retreat conducted by Father Sullivan OMI solitude and heavenly peace reugned Beung hostesses at the Senior graduation breakfast brought to a close a very memorable year one step more Words would faul us uf we trued to descrube our feelungs at the sight of the fourth bar The thought that we were upper classmen umpressed us deeply we were entrusted wuth the arduous work of edutung a school paper something new and dufferent was brought forth un each edutuon Some Seniors had the honor of beung chosen chairmen of General Assemblies each endeavorung to be more successful than her predecessor Keepung ourselves busy wuth numerous actuvutues plus the ambutuon of a hugh scholastuc standung we hardly were aware of tume fleeting by so quuckly On the thurd annuversary of Pearl Harbor Rev Frank Lesnuak gave us our class rungs A memorable day undeed' Wuth the rung sparklung on our fingers we fully realuzed that we actually became a part and parcel of St Muchael s The tradutuonal Christmas Party was another bug responsubuluty that we had to shoulder A gauly decorated tree was the main attractuon the solemnuty of the Candle lughtung a bruef program and the comung of Santa all contrubuted to the umportance of the affaur Returning to school after the Christmas holudays only one thought occupued each Senior the oncomung Promenade at the exclusuve Edgewater Beach Hotel For thus pruvulege we are grateful to the Faculty and students of Holy Famuly Academy who cordually unvuted us as guests to theur Prom The buggest affaur of the school year however was the organuzatuon of a Glee Club under the durectuon of Mr Harry Walsh ut offered opportunutues for cultivating the vouce and mund through classucal musuc and lyruc Funally the curtain us beung drawn the long awaited day us fully un vuew GRADUA TlON We take the funal step-the exut door leads to an unfathomable unknown but we shall endeavor to attain our goal un the Chrustuan manner me ve been taught In thus way we shall make a name for ourselves and for our beloved St Muchael s Hugh The port us reached the plank us laud down we bud adueu we are on our way A funal word to our successors If you want to enjoy your trup of a
