CHESS TEAM: DISTRICT CHAMPS In it’s first year the fledgling chess team won the Northeastern District Chess Tournament, by defeating Los Alamos, Shiprock, and Espanola, and drawing against Santa Fe High. By win- ning the district tournament, die team qualified to play in die State Tournament against de- fending champs Sandia and Las Cruces. Although we were dis- appointed after these defeats, we were grateful to be able to com- pete for the State Championship in our first year.
