OVCWOV Through Him, and with Him, and in Him. These words, taken from the core of our Catholicity, the Mass, set the theme for the 1954 KNIGHT. The book that you are about to page through will review. through the media of pictures and the written word, the entire school year at St. Mel. It will take you into the classrooms, rooms that have been the scene of innumerable sessions of religion, history, mathematics and science. You will be taken back to the football fields, the basketball courts, and the many nooks and crannies of St. Mel East and West that serve as headquarters for the countless activities. It has been a great and wonderful year for St. Mel. Our school has taken its position among the cream of the crop. In spirit and activity we can honestly say that we are the best. We hope to take you back to September and the thirty-eighth reawakening of a great school. You will catch a glimpse of the nervous freshmen and the cocky seniors. You will relive the foot- ball games, the Homecoming festivities and the birth of what was destined to be a truly great basketball season. When you get to the section devoted to the student body, you will be confronted with a sea of faces: some you will recog- nize and others will be just what they are, faces. Yet, everyone is an integral part of St. Mel. Somewhere along the way you will have to stop and wonder. This book, with so many pictures and faces, and stories about so many events - how could all of these things have been accomp- lished? Was it just 52 Catholic men, a few office workers, 1500 teenagers, and two brick buildings? There had to be something else. There are larger schools than St. Mel, much larger. But they haven't got what we have. Where else can you find the spirit that is St. Mel? Where else can you find a school that could fill a book like this with so many wonderful things? We believe that after looking through this book every Knight will have a greater appreciation for his school. The seniors will probably appreciate it most. In a very short time they will be leaving it all. The freshmen are lucky. If they realize what they have now, they have three more years to live it and count their blessings. If they accept St. Mel for what it is and for what it can do for them, then the next three years will certainly be their happiest. That undefinable thing we call spirit has made this year possible. Now we are nearing the end and soon it will all be over. When you close the cover on this book you will know why we are so proud of our school and why so many nice things have come our way. St. Mel has accomplished great things in the past and will continue in the same way as long as we do all things Through Him, and with Him, and in Him.
