Toward New Horizons is the motto of thirty-eight girls who are all members of the Future Homemakers of America. The FHA has had a very busy year. Twenty-one members of the FHA and FFA enjoyed the State meet- ing and the State Fair held in Columbia. New mem- bers were welcomed into the club with an initiation party in September. In November the girls entertained their mothers with the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet. Members of the FHA have attended and taken part in the district, bi-county, and county meetings. Last summer Bonnie Inabinet, president, attended the state convention at Winthrop College for three days. Under the leadership of Mrs. Pitts FHA girls sold doughnuts and Stanley products to make money for summer camp, the FHA-FFA party, and a trip in the summer. These are the high spots in the life of a FHA girl. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS FHA bus driver, Jimmy Broody, doubles as bathing beauty at the beach. Angela and Dorothy enjoy the sun on the beach. FFA OFFICERS Seated (1 to r): Charlie Wise, Secretary; Pete Tucker, Vice-President; Tommy Knight, President; Standing: Truman Mack, Treasurer; Lindsey Mack, Reporter; Allen Hooker, Sentinel. Some of the boys raised swine for the Orangeburg Fat Stock Show and for sale. Teams from members entered the contest for livestock, dairy, and soil judging held this year. They will also attend the FFA camp this summer and the State FFA Convention in the fall. Last year the Chapter bought one hundred shares of stock in the Grain Elevator at Charleston. This year they plan to start a savings account. FFA boys are justly proud of their successful projects.

SMHS ORGANIZES PEP CLUB The Pep Club encourages student attendance at all athletic events. Spring of 1963 found a group of indus- trious SMHS students planning and organiz- ing a much needed pep club. The club, open to all students, encourages students to take part in school activities. The club is guided by an executive council made up of class representatives and the club officers who are under the direction of a sponsor. The Pep Club has been very successful in building up the school spirit of the stu- dents by sponsoring parties and pep rallies. PEP CLUB OFFICERS (left to right) Webb Carroll, vice-president; Nancy Hill, secretary; Kathryn Wannamaker, treasurer; Larry Myers, president admire the School Spirit trophy presented to SMHS at foot- ball jamboree. 19
