LIFE FOR THE GRADUATE IS Nof finished, iusf begun. Remember fhe classic riddle of Oedipus Rex. Whaf walks on 4 feef in fhe morning, 2 af noon, and 3 in fhe evening? The an- swer is 'a human being,' who while young, crawls on hands and feefg af fhe noon of life walks erecf on fwog and in fhe evening of life, wifh fhe aid of a cane. In a sense, up fo now you have walked on four feef, wifh fhe assisfance of parenfs and feachers. Buf now you musf sfand on your own fwo feef. Decisions in fhe pasf were small ones and you had help: now fhere will be im- porfanf ones, many of which you shall have fo make yourself. You are enfering info a wider life, more complex, more inferesfing, more excifing. Success does nof consisf in money, posifion, popularify or pleasure. If does consisf in fhe money of good works, fhe power of infercession, popularify wifh God. If people can look on you and say: She is rich in good works: she is powerful and has greaf influence in Heaven: she is popular wifh God-fhen you are a success. Maferial success can be combined wifh if, buf nof necessarily so. Nine-fenfhs of fhe people of fhis world are a failure according fo fhe world's sfandarcl-buf fhe same nine-fenfhs can be successful according fo God's sfandard. LEARNING FOR THE GRADUATE IS NOT FINISHED, JUST BEGUN. If fhere is one fhing your educafion should have faughf you if is fhis fhaf fhere is sfill much fo learn. Your dip- loma is no more a guaranfee of your learning, fhan your bapfismal cerfificafe is of your salva- fion. STAY CLOSE TO GOD-No Cafholic girl can ever be fruly happy who runs away from God and His love. You are going ouf info a world of which we are none foo proud..
